Quality Analyst (QA) Surgery Medical Coding
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Quality Analyst (QA) for Surgery Medical Coding to ensure coding accuracy, compliance, and adherence to client and industry standards. The candidate will be responsible for auditing coded charts, providing feedback to coders, identifying process gaps, and supporting continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform quality audits on surgery medical coding charts across multiple specialties.
- Review CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS code assignments for accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure adherence to client guidelines, coding standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify coding errors, trends, and knowledge gaps, and provide constructive feedback to coders.
- Prepare and maintain audit reports, quality dashboards, and error analysis reports.
- Conduct calibration sessions and support training initiatives for coding teams.
- Monitor coder performance and recommend corrective actions where required.
- Stay updated with coding guideline changes, payer updates, and compliance regulations.
- Collaborate with operations, training, and management teams to improve coding quality and productivity.
- Support internal and external audits as needed.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of Surgery coding and medical terminology.
- Expertise in CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, modifiers, and payer-specific guidelines.
- Good understanding of surgical specialties such as Orthopedics, General Surgery, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, etc.
- Strong analytical and auditing skills.
- Excellent communication and feedback management abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and reporting tools.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or equivalent preferred.
- Certified coder credentials preferred (CPC, CCS, COC, CIC, etc.).
- 26 years of experience in Surgery Medical Coding with QA/Auditing exposure.
Preferred Experience
- Experience handling multi-specialty surgery audits.
- Exposure to US healthcare and RCM processes.
- Experience in team mentoring or coder training.
KPIs / Performance Metrics
- Audit accuracy percentage.
- Error identification and reduction rate.
- Compliance adherence.
- Turnaround time for audits.
- Team quality improvement metrics.
