Supplier Quality Engineer PCB Design & Manufacturing
Role Summary:
We are looking for a highly skilled Supplier Quality Engineer with strong expertise in PCB design and
manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will have end-to-end knowledge of PCB fabrication,
assembly, and testing, and will be responsible for ensuring supplier capability, process robustness, and
product quality across complex electronic builds.
Key Responsibilities:
1. PCB Design & Manufacturing Expertise
Review and validate PCB design data including Gerber files, stack-up, impedance requirements,
and fabrication drawings
Ensure manufacturability (DFM) and testability (DFT) of PCB designs
Evaluate critical parameters such as trace impedance, layer stack-up, via structures, copper
thickness, and material selection (FR4, high-speed laminates)
Work closely with design teams on layout, routing constraints, and design rule compliance
2. PCB Supplier Qualification & Process Control
Assess and qualify PCB fabrication and assembly suppliers (bare board + PCBA)
Deep understanding of manufacturing processes including:
Imaging, etching, drilling, plating, solder mask, surface finishes (ENIG, HASL, OSP)
SMT, wave soldering, reflow profiles, AOI, X-ray inspection
Review and approve supplier process flow, PFMEA, and control plans with focus on PCB-specific
risks
3. Quality Assurance & PPAP (PCB Focused)
Lead PPAP activities with emphasis on PCB deliverables such as:
Stack-up validation and impedance control reports
First Article Inspection (FAI) and dimensional results
Solderability and reliability test reports
Ensure compliance to IPC standards (IPC-A-600, IPC-6012, IPC-A-610, J-STD-001)
4. Failure Analysis & Problem Solving
Lead root cause analysis for PCB/PCBA failures such as:
Open/short circuits, delamination, via failures, solder defects
Signal integrity issues and field failures
Drive corrective actions using 8D methodology and ensure long-term preventive measures
Collaborate with suppliers on process improvements and yield enhancement
5. Supplier Performance & Continuous Improvement
Monitor supplier quality metrics (DPPM, yield, escape rate)
Identify systemic issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives
Reduce cost of poor quality (COPQ) through process optimization and defect reduction
6. Compliance & Audits
Ensure adherence to IPC, ESD, RoHS, REACH, and customer-specific requirements
Conduct supplier audits focusing on PCB fabrication and assembly processes
Support customer audits and technical reviews
Key Skills & Expertise:
Strong understanding of PCB fabrication, assembly, and testing processes
Ability to interpret Gerber files, schematics, PCB layouts, and stack-ups
Hands-on experience with DFM/DFT, signal integrity, and high-speed design considerations
Expertise in APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, SPC, and 8D problem solving
Knowledge of IPC standards (IPC-A-600, IPC-6012, IPC-A-610, J-STD-001)
Experience with failure analysis tools and techniques (cross-sectioning, X-ray, microscopy)
Strong supplier management and communication skills
Data-driven and detail-oriented approach
