An IT Asset Management (ITAM) Analyst strategically tracks, manages, and optimizes an organizations hardware and software assets throughout their entire lifecyclefrom procurement to disposal. They reduce costs, ensure compliance, and maximize value by maintaining accurate inventory records, identifying underutilized resources, and managing software licenses.
Key Responsibilities
- Lifecycle Management: Overseeing assets from acquisition to retirement, including deployment, maintenance, and secure, environmentally responsible disposal.
- Inventory & Compliance: Maintaining precise records of software and hardware using specialized tools to ensure audit compliance and prevent overspending.
- Cost Optimization: Analyzing usage patterns to eliminate unnecessary software subscriptions and reduce maintenance costs.
- Vendor & Asset Tracking: Using ITAM software for automated tracking, reporting, and negotiating with vendors for better value.
- Reporting & Analysis: Providing data-driven insights for future IT investment planning.
Required Skills
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with ITAM tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Flexera) and asset inventory systems.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze data to improve asset utilization and cost-efficiency.
- Process Knowledge: Understanding of ITIL framework and asset management best practices.
- Problem-Solving: Proactively identifying and addressing risks, such as software non-compliance or hardware failures.
- Focuses on auditing, tracking inventory accuracy, maintaining software licensing compliance, and identifying cost-optimization opportunities.
- Policy Enforcement: Developing and implementing ITAM governance frameworks and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Software License Management: Preventing legal risks by ensuring proper usage and compliance with vendor contracts.
- Data Security & Disposal: Ensuring compliant, secure data sanitization and destruction during asset retirement.
- Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating risks related to unauthorized software/hardware and non-compliant vendor practices.
