Job Description
The Card Issuing Solution Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing endtoend solutions for card issuing platforms, including credit, debit, prepaid, and virtual card products. The role involves working closely with product, engineering, compliance, and external partners to architect scalable, secure, and regulatorycompliant card issuing systems. This position requires deep expertise in payments, card lifecycle management, and modern APIdriven financial platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Architecture & Design
- Architect endtoend solutions for card issuing, including card creation, personalization, processing, and lifecycle management.
- Design scalable system integrations with core banking systems, card management systems (CMS), fraud systems, and payment networks (Visa, Mastercard, RuPay, Amex, etc.).
- Develop solution blueprints, sequence diagrams, API specifications, and deployment architectures aligning with business and compliance requirements.
- Ensure all designs follow PCIDSS, network mandates, and security best practices.
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical leadership across multiple teams in delivering card-issuing solutions.
- Evaluate thirdparty technology providers (e.g., Marqeta, Fiserv, FIS, Zeta, M2P, Galileo).
- Work with engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical designs.
Payments & Card Expertise
- Oversee card lifecycle processes:
- KYC/Onboarding
- PAN generation
- Tokenization
- PIN generation and management
- Authorization & clearing
- Disputes and chargebacks
- Understand network specifications, BIN setup, embossing file formats, batch processing, and settlement flows.
Project & Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with business, operations, compliance, and risk teams to define solution requirements.
- Support project delivery through requirement mapping, solution validation, and production readiness.
- Act as a technical SME during client workshops, audits, and regulatory reviews.
Quality, Governance & Documentation
- Ensure architectural governance and alignment with enterprise standards.
- Maintain detailed technical documentation for card issuing platforms and integrations.
- Perform impact analysis for regulatory or platform enhancements (e.g., tokenization mandates, SCA, network updates).
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of card issuing platforms, ISO 8583/20022, APIbased payment flows.
- Expertise in authorization systems, CMS, tokenization, and risk systems.
- Experience with cloudbased architectures (Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Ability to design microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures.
Domain Expertise
- Deep understanding of cards & payments, including EMV, PCIDSS, interchange, settlement, and fraud controls.
- Experience working with global payment networks or large processors.
- Familiarity with digital wallet ecosystems (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay).
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management.
- Structured problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to lead solution workshops and present technical concepts to business leaders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Certification in Payments, Architecture (TOGAF), or Cloud (AWS/Azure).
- Experience with fintechs, banks, or payment processors.
