Job Description: IBMI Support Engineer
Job Title:IBMi Support EngineerDepartment/Group:ITLocation:Hyderabad/CoimbatorePosition Type:L1 Support General PurposeThe ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of IBM iSeries systems, including administration, support, and maintenance tasks. The IBM iSeries Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the stable operation of our client's IBM iSeries environment and providing 24/7 support as needed.
Job Description Roles and Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain IBM iSeries systems, including hardware, operating systems, and software applications.
- Perform system administration tasks, including user management, security, and performance tuning.
- Monitor system performance and implement optimization strategies to ensure maximum availability and uptime.
- Plan and execute system backups, disaster recovery, data refresh and data restoration processes.
- Coordinate system maintenance activities, such as server shutdowns, restarts, and data refreshes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to IBM iSeries systems and related infrastructure.
- Provide technical support for IBM iSeries-related projects and initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and compatibility with other systems.
- Maintain documentation of IBM iSeries systems, processes, and procedures.
- Stay up to date on industry best practices, trends, and emerging technologies related to IBM iSeries and recommend improvements as needed.
- Learn the software systems and be able to assist in troubleshooting software issues as needed.
- Flexibility to adjust your schedule to meet business needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL SKILLS
- IBM i for business (AS/400, iSeries, etc..) hardware and software.
- Excellent troubleshooting/problem solving.
- Windows admin and VMware vSphere management
- Remote console access and server management
- Monitoring BACKUPS.
- Hands-on experience with MIMIX and ITERA
- Should be able to handle PTF Upgrades.
ESSENTIAL ANALYTICAL SKILLS
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Organizational, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently.
- Ability to effectively work in a global team.
- Self-starter with the ability to independently resolve issues and deliver results.
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- 2+ years technology experience.
- Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Ability to interact effectively with both non-technical and highly technical users
- Must demonstrate technical proficiency in areas related to work experience and/or education
- Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks
- Organization and prioritization skills are a must
- Willingness to research and resolve issues
- Ability to effectively work in a global team, a team player
- Self-starter with the ability to independently resolve issues and deliver results
- Familiarity with trouble shooting methodologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work outside business hours as needed
