Key Responsibilities
Design heavy-duty welding fixtures, jigs, and assembly tooling for large, fabricated components.
Develop 3D CAD models and detailed 2D drawings using tools like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor.
Collaborate with welding engineers to ensure fixture designs support proper weld access, distortion control, and compliance with WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications).
Integrate hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical clamping systems for fixture automation and operator ease.
Conduct tolerance analysis and ensure fixture designs meet dimensional and geometric requirements.
Support fixture fabrication, installation, and commissioning on the shop floor.
Troubleshoot and optimize existing fixtures to improve cycle time, ergonomics, and durability.
Maintain documentation including BOMs, revision history, and usage protocols.
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or Tool Design.
38 years of experience in fixture design for welding and assembly in heavy industry.
Strong proficiency in CAD software and understanding of welding processes (MIG, TIG, SAW).
Knowledge of GD&T, material handling, and structural design principles.
Familiarity with manufacturing standards, safety norms, and lean practices.
Hands-on experience with shop-floor implementation and troubleshooting.
