Overview POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT: The Telecommunications Engineer II is responsible for designing, testing, implementing, and supporting telephony infrastructure. This role provides consultation and direct technical support in life cycle planning, problem management, integration, and telecommunication configuration. Detailed Responsibilities/Duties Level II Support and administration of telephony solutions in line with GTS communications policy Updating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations Reporting telecommunications operational status (Daily Routine) by performing morning precheck activities Gathering and prioritizing information and managing small projects Remote support of on-site engineers and end users/customers during installation Remote troubleshooting and fault finding if issues occur upon initial installation Speaking. with customers via email, chat, and phone for initial requirement capture Liaising with Service Desk to improve new user setup procedures Maintaining inventory of Desktop Phones, Headsets, and cables required to deploy IP Phones Collaborate with 3rd party / Telco Vendor to work and escalate the h/w or phone line issues Train end users on software and hardware communications tools Undertaking IP telephony fault investigations in PSTN, local, and wide area environments, using information from multiple sources Securing telecommunications systems by establishing and enforcing policies, and defining and monitoring access Upgrading routers, servers, and IP phone equipment to the latest stable firmware releases Configuration of Voice Gateway and IP telephony equipment Configuration of premise and hosted IP voice services Capacity management and audit of premise and hosted telephony solutions within data centers Qualifications Skills: Required Strong communication skills Strong problem solving, analysis skills Basic knowledge of ITIL and Service Management Principles Knowledge of cabling and wiring systems, designs, and installation Expertise in securely designing and implementing IP Telephony Strong understanding VoIP QoS issues and mitigation strategies. Experience with telecommunications monitoring tools and Call Detail Recording applications Ability to troubleshoot Premise and Hosted Voice over IP Solutions Working technical knowledge of VoIP/IP telephony systems, software, hardware, and Telecommunications standards (Q.931, VoIP, SIP, H323) Strong hands-on knowledge of the configuration and optimization of Cisco CUCM VoIP and CUBE session border controller Understanding of configuration and setup of Opentext Rightfax Solution Prior experience working with SIP Carriers to plan and deploy SIP trunking Experience with application integration with Cisco CUCM platform Certificates / Training Preferred: CCNA, CCNP or equivalent Accepted: IP Telephony Related Vendor Certification Experience Level II 3+ years telecommunications engineering or related field Preferred: 5+ years of IT experience Education Required Bachelor's in Information Technology or equivalent field experience Principles & Related Competencies Ethical Complies with policies and procedures; Takes the high road and upholds our values; Maintains confidentiality; Acts with integrity, honesty and respect.
