Amazon Lab126 is an inventive research and development company that designs and delivers high-profile consumer electronics. Lab126 began in 2004 as a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc., originally creating the best-selling Kindle family of products. Since then, Lab126 has produced groundbreaking devices like Fire tablets, Fire TV, and Amazon Echo.
The Devices OS team is a big part of creating these innovative devices at Lab126. The Device OS team is responsible for the board bring up, low level software, operating system, core framework feature development, and end-to-end system functions that bring the devices to life.
For many devices, the Device OS team takes the open source Android distribution and it is tuned specifically to deliver on customer-facing experiences.
Device OS is looking for a Software Development Manager to manage a team with a set of disparate responsibilities. You will have a team that innovates in the core FireOS framework, manages team members with deliverables in performance, connectivity, and other areas.
In this position you will partner with software development, product and legal teams across multiple time zones to solve for complex problems. A successful candidate will have an established background with strong technical ability, excellent project management skills, great communication skills and motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment.
The Software Development Manager will provide technical leadership and management for a team of experienced software developers. This hands-on position requires broad engineering competence and in-depth technical knowledge of software development, as well as demonstrated experience successfully planning, organizing and conducting software development projects in a dynamic environment.
The leader we are looking for will bring proven experience building, managing and mentoring engineering teams. In this role, you will:
Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach
Instill best practices for software development and documentation, assure designs meet requirements and deliver high-quality work on tight schedules
Prepare technical requirements and software design specifications
Report on status of development, quality, operations and system performance to management,

• 7+ years of engineering experience
• 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams
• Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

• Master s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.
• A deep understanding of the software development lifecycle, and a track record of shipping software on time.
• Experience designing software architectures for scalability, reliability and performance.
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
