Job Description

Main Tasks & Responsibilities


DWBI is looking for Medical Doctors to work for us in our Mumbai Projects in the coming 3 months to ensure stable running of our operations during the ongoing Covid pandemic. The main responsibilities will be as follows:


Medical

  • Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting DWBI protocols.
  • Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood.
  • Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized/IDP patients, through daily visits, consultations, and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following DWBI protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments in collaboration with other doctors- and informing their family about the patients evolution.
  • Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection, and sterilization of the medical material. Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards..
  • Provide outpatient/clinical consultations to all DWBI patients.
  • Provide management and follow up for HIV care, antiretroviral therapy (ART), DR-TB care, hepatitis C treatment, opportunistic infections treatment, and co-morbidity treatment following the protocol for the project.
  • Arrange referral activities and admissions for DWBI patients between referral hospital, diagnostic facilities, specialty center, and DWBI clinic.
  • Reinforce adherence on the therapy, follow up of any adverse events including adverse events reporting, verifies the understanding of the patients with HIV, TB, opportunistic infections, and co-morbidities. To collaborate with patient support team related to this aspect.
  • Assist technically the home-based activities of social workers, patient support team, and perform medical home visits.
  • Provide medical consultation to national staff including the reading of routine medical checkup results as per Policy.
  • Participate along with patient support team, clinic team, Medical Activities Manager, medical technical referent, in providing training, capacity building, and networking for internal/external partners including other NGOs network, hospice staff, hospital staff, orphanage staff, school staff, ART centers doctor on a relevant medical issue.
  • To discuss with medical technical referent and other relevant service components ( patient support, clinic nurses/staff) about the management/treatment initiation/end of patients on ART, TB treatment, DR-TB treatment, Hepatitis treatment, opportunistic infection treatment, and co-morbidities.
  • To document cases and reports for presentation/reporting/case discussion with headquarter (Brussels or Southern Africa Medical Unit) and prepare a medical discussion with medical technical referent and relevant service components in the medical team.
  • Follow the universal precautions including DWBI standard of infection control implemented in the project

Patient support activities


  • Involve and contribute medical expertise in developing health promotion materials.
  • Provide medical expertise in training/educational activities about HIV, TB, Hepatitis, opportunistic infections, and co-morbidities for patients and their supporting families, NGO partners, and other target populations.

Data gathering, analysis, and reporting activities


  • Collect all relevant medical data related to patient consultations for HIV, TB, DR-TB, Hepatitis, opportunistic infections, and co-morbidities using available tools such as Fuchia for HIV and DR-TB database/ for drug-resistant TB.
  • To record all patients investigation reports (laboratory, microbiology, radiology, consultation answers) in

the patient file and relevant data tool provided.

  • To search actively for information both local and external related to HIV, TB, hepatitis, opportunistic infections, co-morbidities, and other public health emergencies.
  • To participate in any relevant operational research activities, publications, and conferences, including writing publications and providing data analysis

Infection control activities

  • To follow and implement DWBI infection control protocol in the project premises.
  • To suggest improvement in infection control practices in collaboration with DWBI infection control focal point in the Clinic.
  • To follow infection control practices in other facilities such as hospitals, diagnostic facilities, orphanages, schools, whenever appropriate.

Emergency response activities

  • According to the nature of the organization, he/she is available to carry out short interventions within the country when requested and to participate in exploratory missions as well as emergency interventions.like COVID etc
  • To be flexible to rotate all interventions of the project and to work beyond regular timings as needed

Benefits (Non-Negotiable)

Monthly Gross Salary: INR 104,250/- and Secondary Benefits as per policies:

  • Demonstrates flexibility in taking up tasks outside of regular job responsibilities as required and aptitude for humanitarian medical work.

Duration : 3 Month (possible extension for another 3 months)

Location: Mumbai

Expected Start Date: January/February 2022

Qualifications: Essential: MBBS degree with full & valid registration from Medical Council of India or state medical councils

Experience: Preferably at least 1 year of work experience with TB, Clinical Trial and/or Covid.
