Job Description
- Assess their organizations infrastructure and data to identify vulnerabilities caused by weaknesses or flaws in software and hardware that could expose the infrastructure to a security breach.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of existing security measures, such as firewalls, password policies and intrusion-detection systems.
- Make recommendations to improve security based on their assessments and knowledge of current and emerging threats.
- Handle internal as well external audits
- Develop and maintain policies that give varying levels of access to corporate applications, systems and data, and they monitor access to ensure compliance.
- Reinforce the importance of information security.
- Run training and awareness programs for employees.
- Demonstrate good practices and explain the risks of poor security practices, such as using weak passwords.
- Caution against including sensitive data in emails or using data that is not encrypted in laptops or other mobile devices that could be lost or stolen.
- Install software to monitor security across all corporate networks, computers and storage devices, identify attacks and respond to any alerts.
- Carry out tests, such as simulated attacks, on their own security systems to ensure that there are no weaknesses.
- Security vendors publish information on new types of cyber-crime or computer viruses to help officers keep their security systems up to date.
- Update anti-virus software and monitor employee access levels.
- When employees leave a company or change positions, ISC must ensure that they remove or update access privileges.
- ISC must minimize the risk of damage from security breaches by putting a business continuity or disaster recovery plan in place.
His basic requirements would be like: BE or Bsc IT with added qualification of a CISSP with experience in handling ISMS and PCI audits. Experience in management of hardware like servers and operating systems would be an added advantage. Experience of 2 to 3 years would be great in the above field.
