Key Responsibilities
1. Design & Development
- Architect and implement scalable Elasticsearch clusters (index design, mappings, analyzers, synonyms, aggregations)
- Develop and maintain Java-based services integrating with Elasticsearch
- Build near real-time data ingestion pipelines (Logstash, Beats, Kafka, or custom ETL)
2. Search & Relevance
- Implement Elasticsearch Query DSL, compound queries, rescoring, and aggregations
- Perform relevance tuning (BM25, boosts, synonyms, stemming, stop words)
- Build advanced search features like autocomplete, fuzziness (typo tolerance), highlighting, and faceted search
3. Performance & Reliability
- Optimize indexing and search performance (sharding, routing, refresh intervals)
- Manage cluster scaling, ILM (Index Lifecycle Management), and snapshot/restore
- Monitor cluster health using Elasticsearch APIs, Kibana, Prometheus, and Grafana
- Ensure high availability, zero-downtime deployments, and disaster recovery
4. Quality & Security
- Write clean, testable code using JUnit/Testcontainers/mock frameworks
- Implement security features (TLS, RBAC, API keys, field/document-level security)
- Collaborate with DevOps/SRE teams for CI/CD and cloud deployments
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 3 - 5 years of overall experience, with 2.5+ years in Elasticsearch (production environment)
- Strong proficiency in Java (Java 8+), collections, concurrency, and REST APIs
- Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch Query DSL, mappings, analyzers, and aggregations
- Experience in cluster tuning, ILM, snapshots, and restore
- Familiarity with data ingestion tools (Logstash, Kafka, Beats)
- Good understanding of distributed systems (sharding, replication, consistency)
- Experience with Docker, Git, Maven/Gradle, and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong debugging and performance optimization skills
Good-to-Have Skills
- Experience with Spring Boot microservices and reactive programming (WebFlux)
- Exposure to cloud platforms like Amazon OpenSearch or Elastic Cloud
- Hands-on with Kibana dashboards, Prometheus, and Grafana
- Security integrations (X-Pack, SSO/OIDC)
- Knowledge of vector/semantic search (kNN, ANN, RAG)
- Experience with Python for data-related tasks
- Familiarity with databases like PostgreSQL, Redis, or Cassandra
