Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior PostgreSQL & Cloud Technical Lead who combines deep handson expertise with strong technical leadership capabilities. This role requires an individual who can design, build, optimize, and support PostgreSQL-based solutions in cloud environments, while also mentoring teams, influencing architecture decisions, and engaging with customers and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Act as the primary technical authority for PostgreSQL and cloud-based database solutions
- Provide architectural guidance, design reviews, and best practice recommendations
- Mentor and guide engineers, ensuring quality, scalability, and operational excellence
- Collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Hands-On Engineering
- Design, implement, and optimize PostgreSQL databases for performance, scalability, and reliability
- Lead database migration, modernization, and optimization initiatives (onprem to cloud, version upgrades)
- Hands-on involvement in query optimization, indexing strategies, replication, backup, and recovery
- Implement and manage PostgreSQL in cloud environments (AWS / Azure / GCP)
- Work closely with application and DevOps teams to ensure seamless database integration
Operations & Reliability
- Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery strategies
- Support performance tuning, capacity planning, and production issue resolution
- Drive database security, compliance, and operational best practices
Required Skills & Experience
- 1012 years of overall IT experience with strong hands-on expertise in PostgreSQL
- Proven experience as a Technical Lead / Senior Engineer, balancing leadership with active development
- Deep understanding of PostgreSQL internals:
- Query planning, indexing, vacuuming, replication, partitioning
- Strong experience working in Cloud platforms (AWS / Azure / GCP) with managed or self-managed PostgreSQL
- Experience designing and supporting high-volume, mission-critical database systems
- Solid understanding of system performance, Linux fundamentals, and networking basics
- Ability to lead technical discussions with customers and senior stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills
Preferred / Value-Add Skills
- Experience with cloud-native architectures and microservices
- Exposure to DevOps practices, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code
- Knowledge of HA solutions (Patroni, logical/physical replication, read replicas)
- Experience aligning database solutions with cost, reliability, and performance goals
Education
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
