Data Migration Engineer (Qlik / SQL / dbt)
Location: Chennai, India Level: Mid-Level Full-Time
Function: Data Migration Engineering
About the Role
We are hiring mid-level data engineers with Qlik, SQL, and dbt skills to build India-based migration engineering
capacity. The immediate work is converting Qlik load scripts into production-quality SQL/dbt, using AI
generated starting points from our Vortex platform that require engineering judgment to validate and complete.
The ideal candidate brings strong SQL fundamentals and Qlik familiarity on day one, works effectively with AI
assisted tooling without over-relying on it, communicates clearly in English, and can help scale the team by
training junior hires.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess Vortex-generated SQL outputs against source Qlik load scripts; identify where generated code
succeeds, fails, or needs refinement
- Complete last-mile SQL/dbt engineering to produce production-ready, maintainable migration
deliverables
- Validate transformed outputs against source logic through testing and reconciliation
- Document reusable migration patterns, conversion issues, and resolution approaches
- Use AI tools to accelerate delivery while applying independent validation and quality control
- Follow SDLC practices across development, testing, and deployment
- Communicate migration issues, testing findings, and resolution paths clearly to team members and
stakeholders in English
- Train campus hires and serve as first-line technical support for junior team members
Ideal Candidate Profile
The strongest candidates bring four things together:
1. Engineering fundamentals. No training needed on SQL, databases, or production-quality coding
practices. Comfortable with CTEs, window functions, complex joins, and transformation logic not just
basic queries.
2. Migration mindset. Comfortable reading legacy Qlik logic, diagnosing imperfect generated outputs,
and translating business intent from source to target. Understands that source and target are never
identical and knows how to close the gap.
3. AI-enabled engineering judgment. Sees AI as a force multiplier, not a crutch. Uses Vortex and other
accelerators to move faster but applies real technical judgment to validate outputs. Knows the
difference between "AI generated it" and "this is correct."
4. Scalability mindset. Can execute the work and help scale the team. Trains campus hires, documents
patterns, reduces dependency on US-based leads for routine delivery questions, and shows flexibility to
deepen in Qlik migration or expand into adjacent work over time.
Required Qualifications
- Qlik load script familiarity (QlikView or Qlik Sense)
- Strong SQL and transformation engineering (CTEs, window functions, complex joins, aggregation
patterns)
- Database and data warehouse fundamentals
- Debugging, testing, and reconciliation discipline can validate transformed outputs against source
logic
- SDLC maturity and production-deployment awareness
- Comfort using AI-assisted tools with independent validation of outputs
- Independent execution without close supervision for routine engineering work
- Experience mentoring or training junior team members
- Strong English communication, verbal and written can explain technical issues, discrepancies, and
findings clearly
Preferred Qualifications
- dbt experience
- Prior BI or ETL migration experience (any platform)
- Logic translation from legacy BI/ETL tools (Qlik, Tableau, Cognos, MicroStrategy, Informatica, etc.)
- Cloud data platform experience (Snowflake, Fabric, Databricks)
- CI/CD and source control practices
- Prior use of AI-assisted development tools in a disciplined engineering context
- Offshore/onshore delivery model experience
