Detailed Job Description:

BGP & Routing Protocols

Demonstrates expertise in configuring and managing eBGP peering sessions end-to-end, including session establishment, prefix advertisement, and neighbour management on edge routers.

Implements and maintains route filtering using prefix-lists, route-maps, and AS-PATH filters to ensure only authorised prefixes are accepted and advertised.

Manages IRR (Internet Routing Registry) objects and RPKI/ROA validation to maintain routing hygiene and prevent route hijacking/leaks.

Configures max-prefix limits, MD5 authentication, and BFD for reliable and secure peering sessions.

Uses BGP communities (standard, extended, large) for traffic engineering, controlling inbound/outbound traffic flow, and signalling peer preferences.

Has working knowledge of IS-IS as an interior gateway protocol and MPLS for backbone/edge transport

Layer 1 Physical & Optical

Proficient in Fiber-optic technology including single-mode (SMF) and multi-mode (MMF) fiber, connector types (LC, SC, MPO/MTP), and cable management.

Hands-on experience with optical transceivers SFP+ (10G), SFP28 (25G), QSFP28 (100G), QSFP-DD (400G) including SR, LR, ER, ZR variants and their reach/application.

Understands optical power levels (Tx/Rx in dBm), link budget calculations, and can interpret light-level readings to diagnose fiber path issues.

Familiar with optical test equipment (power meters, OTDR) and their use in verifying cross-connect integrity and troubleshooting signal degradation.

Experience with DWDM concepts for wavelength-based capacity scaling on metro and long-haul links.

Layer 2 / Layer 3 Protocols & Technologies: Shows comprehensive understanding of L2/L3 protocols including VLAN configuration (802.1Q trunking), LACP for link aggregation on peering links, LLDP for neighbour discovery, ARP for address resolution, and MAC address m
