Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Design Engineer with 34 years of experience in the aerospace industry. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in CATIA and SolidWorks, along with a strong understanding of aerospace design principles, standards, and regulations. You will be responsible for designing, modelling, and developing aerospace components and systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Development:
- Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings of aerospace components using CATIA and SolidWorks.
- Develop innovative design solutions that meet performance, weight, and cost targets.
- Perform design modifications and improvements based on feedback, testing, and analysis.
- Technical Documentation:
- Prepare and maintain engineering drawings, bill of materials (BOM), and design documentation in compliance with aerospace standards (e.g., AS9100, GD&T).
- Ensure designs adhere to regulatory requirements and customer specifications.
- Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including stress analysis, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and problem-solving sessions.
- Validation and Testing:
- Support prototype development, testing, and validation activities.
- Analyse test results and incorporate findings into design iterations.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in aerospace design.
- Contribute to process improvements and optimization initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
- 34 years of hands-on experience in aerospace design and development.
- Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 and SolidWorks (advanced surfacing, assembly design, and drafting).
- Strong knowledge of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and industry standards (e.g., AS9100, GD&T).
- Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, NASTRAN) for stress/thermal analysis.
- Knowledge of composite materials and additive manufacturing in aerospace.
- Experience with PLM/PDM systems (e.g., ENOVIA, Windchill).
- Understanding of aerodynamics, structural mechanics, and systems integration.
