Power BI Analyst Job Description

Overview

A Power BI Analyst collects, analyzes, and visualizes data to help organizations make data-driven decisions. They design dashboards, reports, and data models that are easy to understand and actionable.

Key Responsibilities

Connect to multiple data sources (databases, Excel, APIs, etc.)
Clean and transform data using Power Query
Build data models and relationships
Create interactive dashboards and reports in Microsoft Power BI
Write DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) formulas for calculations
Monitor and improve report performance
Collaborate with business teams to understand requirements
Ensure data accuracy and consistency
Automate reporting processes

Required Skills

Technical Skills

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Power BI
DAX and Power Query (M language)
SQL for database querying
Data modeling concepts
Excel (advanced level)
Basic understanding of data warehousing

Soft Skills

Analytical thinking
Problem-solving ability
Communication skills (explaining data to non-technical users)
Attention to detail

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in:

Computer Science
Information Technology
Data Science
Business Analytics

Certifications (optional but valuable):

Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate

SQL Server / MySQL
Excel
Azure (optional)
Python or R (optional for advanced analytics)
