Job Description
Role
To lead and deliver underground metro rail or road tunnel projects safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with contractual, technical, and statutory requirements. The role involves endtoend project management covering planning, execution, stakeholder coordination, and risk management for complex underground works.
Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for planning, execution, monitoring, and closure of underground metro or road tunnel projects.
- Develop and manage detailed project schedules using Primavera / MS Project.
- Ensure achievement of project milestones related to tunneling, NATM/TBM works, station boxes, portals, shafts, and associated civil works.
- Coordinate design, construction methodologies, and sequencing for underground works.
- Supervise construction activities including:
- TBM / NATM drilling and blasting
- Cut & cover works
- D-walls, secant piles, and ground improvement
- Waterproofing, lining, invert, and backfilling
- Resolve technical issues related to geology, geotechnical challenges, settlement control, and groundwater management.
- Ensure construction is executed as per approved drawings, specifications, and method statements.
- Control project costs, budgets, and cash flow.
- Manage contracts, subcontractors, and vendors for civil, MEP interface, and specialist tunneling works.
- Handle variations, claims, and change management with clients and consultants.
- Ensure strict compliance with HSE standards, site safety norms, and statutory regulations.
- Implement Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC) systems.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and toolbox talks.
- Ensure compliance with metro authority / NCRTC / DMRC / local authority guidelines.
- Act as the primary point of contact with clients, engineers, consultants, and authorities.
- Coordinate with utility agencies, traffic police, local bodies, and thirdparty stakeholders
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams including engineers, planners, safety, quality, and subcontractor teams.
- Allocate resources effectively and ensure high team performance.
- Identify project risks related to geology, environment, utilities, and public interface.
- Develop mitigation plans and contingency strategies.
Educational Qualifications
B.E. / B.Tech in Civil Engineering (Mandatory)+
Project Management certification (PMP / Prince2)
Experience
- 2025 years of overall experience in large infrastructure projects.
- Minimum 10 years of handson experience in underground metro rail or road tunnel projects as project manager.
- Proven experience managing TBM or NATM tunnel works in urban environments is highly desirable.
