Job Description: Surgery / SDS Coder

Role Summary: Responsible for reviewing operative reports and clinical documentation to assign accurate CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for hospital outpatient and ASC settings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assign appropriate facility modifiers based on procedural completion and anesthesia timing.
• Navigate NCCI edits daily to ensure compliant bundling/unbundling using appropriate modifiers.
• Manage surgical claims across global periods to avoid duplicate billing.
• Extract data from complex operative reports across all body systems (Integumentary to Nervous).
• Perform internal audits on SDS procedures to ensure medical necessity and documentation integrity.

Required Skills & Knowledge

• Strong understanding of CPT Surgery section structure and code ranges
• Knowledge of global periods, bundling rules, and modifier usage
• Ability to interpret detailed operative reports
• Familiarity with outpatient hospital and ambulatory surgery center (ASC) coding
• Attention to detail and strong analytical skills
• Ability to work independently in a high-volume coding environment
