Job Description
Role & responsibilities
We are looking for a Database Engineer with strong hands-on experience in database administration, performance tuning, and database migrations. The role involves managing production databases, ensuring availability and security, supporting application teams, and participating in cloud and on-prem database initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Administration & Operations
- Install, configure, and maintain production and non-production databases.
- Perform routine database administration tasks including backup, recovery, patching, and upgrades.
- Monitor database health, availability, and performance.
- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness.
Performance & Optimization
- Perform query tuning, indexing, and performance optimization.
- Analyse slow queries and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Capacity planning and proactive database optimization.
Database Migration & Cloud Support
- Support database migrations between on-premises and cloud environments.
- Assist in database upgrades and platform modernization initiatives.
- Work with cloud-managed databases such as AWS RDS / Aurora (or equivalent).
- Validate data integrity and performance post migration.
Security & Compliance
- Implement database security controls including user access, roles, encryption, and auditing.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and client security standards.
- Support audits and security assessments.
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with application, infrastructure, and cloud teams.
- Provide L2/L3 database support and resolve production issues within SLAs.
- Create and maintain database documentation, SOPs, and runbooks.
Preferred candidate profile
Technical Skills
- 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience as a Database Engineer / DBA.
- Strong experience with at least one major database:
- Oracle / SQL Server / MySQL / PostgreSQL
- Good understanding of database architecture and internals.
- Hands-on experience with backup & recovery strategies.
- Knowledge of high availability and replication concepts.
Cloud & Tools
- Exposure to cloud databases (AWS RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL, etc.).
- Experience with database migration tools (DMS, native utilities).
- Familiarity with monitoring tools and performance dashboards.
Scripting & Automation
- Basic scripting knowledge (Shell / Python) for automation.
- Experience in automating routine DBA tasks is a plus.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work in production support environments.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
- Ownership-driven approach with attention to detail.
