Job Description
This role is responsible for leading and delivering complete fire protection engineering for large industrial, pharmaceutical, biotech, food, and chemical projects. This role involves developing fire protection system designs, performing mechanical and hydraulic calculations, preparing engineering deliverables, supporting procurement, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring full compliance with NFPA, TAC, FM Global, NBC, and other relevant standards. The position requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, effective client handling, and the ability to guide designers in 2D/3D modelling and engineering workflows.
Role & responsibilities
- Lead endtoend fire protection engineering for industrial, pharma, biotech, food, chemical and similar projects.
- Develop fire protection system designs as per NFPA, NBC, TAC, FM Global and insurance standards.
- Prepare Basis of Design, Master Plans, Concept layouts, schematics, fire tank and pump room layouts.
- Perform mechanical and hydraulic calculations including pressure drop, pump sizing, pipe sizing, water demand, drainage, sewage, RWH and heat load calculations.
- Use hydraulic software like PipeNet for system analysis.
- Prepare and review BOQs, tender drawings, design basis reports and technical specifications.
- Review 2D/3D models, layouts and MTOs using Navisworks, Revit and AutoCAD.
- Guide and mentor designers/draftsmen in fire protection and plumbing engineering tasks.
- Manage PHE and firefighting mechanical design team and ensure QA of mechanical deliverables.
- Prepare enquiry specifications for procurement, evaluate vendor technical offers and develop technical recommendations.
- Support cost estimation of fire protection packages.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary internal teams such as projects, piping, mechanical, civil, architecture and vendors.
- Participate in client meetings, provide technical clarifications and maintain strong client relationships.
- Ensure timely completion of engineering deliverables within budget and assigned manhours.
- Visit sites for resolving queries, clarification and residual engineering support.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and applicable standards like NFPA, TAC, NBC, IS, FM Global and insurance guidelines.
- Provide solutions with minimal client input and respond effectively to feedback.
Job Qualifications
A degree in Mechanical Discipline with Minimum 10 years in Fire protection Department of an Engineering consultancy organization specializing
projects in Food or Pharmaceuticals and Site master planning of such projects. Candidate should possess knowledge in carrying out basic and detailed engineering work. The experience can be from any Pharmaceutical/ Biotech/Food projects/chemical/Batteries.
Candidate should have knowledge of following:
- Design and Layouts with inputs from Process Engineering , Process Mechanical, Civil & Structural, and other Engineering disciplines and fulfilling client stated requirements.
- Be able to provide solutions with very little inputs from clients.
- Have working knowledge with Standards such as NBC, IS, TAC, NFPA and FMG requirements.
- Compulsory user knowledge of Software such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Microsoft Office.
- Preferred user knowledge of additional Software tools such as Autodesk Revit, Auto CAD-2015
- Knowledge of Hydraulic Calculation Software Like Pipe net.
- Be open to get training on in house tools and proprietary software and tools and utilize for efficient workflow in organization.
- Reviewing all aspects of design and construction for consistency and safety.
