 Senior Operator (Nokia Mediation System)

Job Description

As Senior Operator, Resource will be the first line of reliability and last mile of accountability. keeping data flows correct, complete, compliant, and on time. You will lead operations in a high-availability, highvolume 4G/5G environment, drive automation, and continually improve quality so that business and regulatory commitments are never at risk.


Key Responsibilities

Run & Recover

  • Monitor end-to-end mediation pipelines (collection, parsing, enrichment, distribution) across environments.
  • Triage and resolve incidents (SLA-driven), including on-call rotations; own major incidents until closure.
  • Execute data reprocessing, reruns, backfills, and reconciliations to ensure completeness and accuracy.

Assure Data Quality & Compliance

  • Own data completeness/consistency checks (volume, schema, duplication, ordering, latency).
  • Maintain and enforce retention, encryption, masking, and GDPR/lawful intercept relevant controls.
  • Produce audit trails and evidences for billing assurance and regulatory requests.

Optimize & Automate

  • Build or enhance runbooks and self-healing (scripts, jobs, alerting rules, dashboards).
  • Improve observability (KPIs, SLOs, synthetic checks, anomaly detection).
  • Propose and validate capacity/performance improvements (throughput, backpressure, storage tuning).

Change & Release

  • Plan and execute deployments/patches (blue/green or canary where possible).
  • Perform impact assessments and rollbacks; maintain CMDB and asset records.
  • Collaborate with vendors/engineering on defect isolation and hotfixes.

Stakeholder Leadership

  • Communicate clearly with Billing/Charging, Finance, Fraud, Regulatory, and Core/Radio teams.
  • Lead post-incident reviews with action owners, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
  • Mentor operators and share knowledge through documentation and workshops.

Required Skills & Experience

Mediation & Telecom

  • Hands-on with Nokia Mediation (or similar mediation platforms) in telco-grade production.
    Experience with CDR/UDR/IPDR collection from 4G/5G/IMS, OSS/BSS integration.
  • Familiarity with 3GPP data models, event types, and charging domains (e.g., PCF/CHF/OCS).
  • Protocols & interfaces: FTP/SFTP, Kafka, HTTP/REST, S3/ object storage, filesystems, TLS.

Platform & Tooling

  • Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu), shell scripting (bash), and Python for ops automation.
  • SQL (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, MariaDB) for lookups, control tables, and reconciliation queries.
  • Observability:Prometheus/Grafana, Elastic/Splunk, or vendor-native dashboards & alarms.
  • Versioning & CI/CD basics: Git, pipelines; config-as-code mindset.
  • Job schedulers (e.g., Control-M, Airflow, native schedulers) and queue/backpressure concepts.

Operational Excellence

  • Incident/Problem/Change under ITIL with strong RCA and communication skills.
  • Proven track record reducing MTTR, preventing recurrences, and improving SLO adherence.
  • Strong understanding of HA/DR, clustering, failover, and data integrity under failure.

Soft Skills

  • Calm under pressure; crisp incident comms.
  • Ownership mentality; bias to automate.
  • Collaborativebridges Ops, Engineering, and Business.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with charging stacks (OCS/CHF), billing assurance, or revenue assurance tooling.
  • Kafka Connect/Schema Registry, Avro/Protobuf, stream processing basics.
  • Ansible/Terraform for environment provisioning and config drift control.
  • Containerization exposure (Docker/Kubernetes) for tooling and support services.
  • Prior experience with lawful intercept feeds, regulatory reporting, or number portability flows.

Measurable KPIs

  • Availability of mediation service and critical pipelines (e.g., 99.9%).
  • Data completeness & timeliness for billing/charging feeds (e.g., 99.99% within SLA window).
  • MTTR for P1/P2 incidents and % incidents resolved within SLA.
  • Change success rate and rollback frequency.
  • Reduction in manual interventions through automation (targets per quarter).
  • Quality of RCA (actions completed on time, recurrence rate reduction).
