About The Team
The Customer Care Engineering team is a pivotal unit within the Enterprise and Business Services team, responsible for developing and maintaining critical applications and tools that enhance customer support and satisfaction.
This team ensures seamless operations and continuous improvement of the Customer Care Application, Chatbot, Help Pages, and Feedback Gathering mechanisms.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Care Application:
- Functionality: Provides a robust platform for agents to efficiently resolve customer queries.
- Impact: Enhances agent productivity and customer satisfaction by streamlining query resolution processes.
Chatbot:
- Functionality: An AI-driven tool that offers instant support to customers, handling common queries and issues.
- Impact: Reduces the load on human agents, provides 24/7 support, and improves response times.
Help Pages:
- Functionality: Provides comprehensive and easily accessible information to customers, covering a wide range of topics and FAQs.
- Impact: Empowers customers to find solutions independently, reducing the need for direct support and improving customer satisfaction.
Feedback Gathering:
- Functionality: Collects and analyzes customer feedback to identify areas for improvement and innovation.
- Impact: Drives continuous improvement in customer care services by incorporating customer insights into development and operational strategies.
The Customer care team at IDC Bangalore is part of Walmart International which operates across markets US, Canada, Mexico, Massmart and Chile.
What will you Do
Principal Software Engineer role is a hands-on role that support architectural designs and advisory for retail domain areas owned by teams in IDC. This is a highly technical role where the right candidate can go deep into specific application and services, and work on higher-level multi-domain system designs.
Direct support and engagement with engineering teams will improve designs, reduce complexity, and contribute to adoption of better practices and strengthened expertise. Contributions towards larger systemic decoupling, and better shared standards will help elevate the entire engineering org and improve the overall quality, stability, and availability of our production systems. Direct team engagement across many domains will increase networking which further elevates the overall org. This role has a huge impact to the business as the new designed platform will power the growth of the markets.
What You ll Do:
- Leads and participates in medium- to large-scale projects by reviewing project requirements, translating requirements into technical solutions, gathering requested information, writing, and developing code, conducting unit testing. Communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders.
- Collaborating with project team and cross functional teams. Troubleshooting open issues and bug-fixes, ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs. Interacting with project manager to provide input on project plan.
- Models compliance with company policies, procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of business plans.
- Creates training documentation. Oversees the tasks of less experienced programmers and stipulates system troubleshooting supports.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop scalable, high-performance software solutions.
- Take ownership of full-stack development, including front-end and back-end components.
- Utilize your expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices to create robust and efficient applications.
- Design and optimize databases using SQL and NoSQL technologies for data storage and retrieval.
- Implement event-driven architectures using Kafka and ensure seamless integration with other systems.
- Work with cloud platforms such as GCP and Azure to build scalable and secure applications.
- Drive adoption of AI and machine learning capabilities across systems, including integrating LLMs, implementing AI-driven automation, and partnering with product teams to identify and operationalize AI use cases.
- Provide architectural and implementation guidance for AI-powered components such as chatbots, intelligent search systems, predictive insights, and agent assist tools.
- Collaborate with data science and ML engineering teams to deploy, evaluate, and optimize AI models in production.
- Collaborate with the team to perform code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and ensure high-quality code delivery.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry best practices and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.
What you ll Bring ...
- At least 12+ years of relevant experience in building highly resilient, highly scalable systems.
- A good understanding of Java and Microservices.
- Hands on experience with Java, Spring Boot, Cloud (Azure/GCP), Kafka (or other messaging service), Memcached/Redis or any caching technologies, relational DBMS ( MySQL, Oracle etc. ) Typescript/JavaScript, React, Redux, NodeJS, HTML, CSS
- Should be hands on writing/reviewing design & code.
- Understand the product and project management space with Agile methodologies.
- CI/CD development environments/tools: Git, Maven, Jenkins.
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership for development and design of least one cloud-based project - Experience in building extensible platforms, data pipelines are desirable.
- Experience in internalization is a plus.
- Strong desire to drive change, and ability to adapt to change quickly. Proficient in new and emerging technologies.
- Ability to balance the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of design decisions.
- Hands-on experience or strong familiarity with AI/ML concepts applicable to software engineering, such as LLM integration, model lifecycle, vector databases, prompt engineering, and AI platform components.
- Experience implementing or integrating AI-powered systems (chatbots, search, personalization, summarization, predictive models) is highly desirable.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills - including negotiation, facilitation, and consensus building skills; ability to influence and persuade, without direct control.
- Mentoring/coaching Senior staff engineers and other Engineers.
- Focus on reusability, frameworks, patterns and configurations tools for faster development.
- Practitioner of Agile (Scrum) methodology.

Minimum Qualifications...
Option 1: Bachelors degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years experience in software engineering or related area.
Option 2: 7 years experience in software engineering or related area.
