Core Responsibilities
Network Monitoring & Fault Management
24/7 monitoring of transmission networks via NMS tools (e.g., U2000, Netcool, SolarWinds, Zabbix)
Detect, analyze, and troubleshoot alarms, degradations, and outages
Perform first-level (L1/L2) fault isolation for fiber, microwave, SDH, DWDM, IP/MPLS links
Escalate issues to field teams, vendors, or higher-level engineering when required
Incident & Outage Handling
Respond to network incidents within SLA timelines
Open, update, and manage trouble tickets
Coordinate with field engineers for fiber cuts, hardware failures, or power issues
Track incidents until resolution and confirm service restoration
Provide regular outage updates to stakeholders and customers
Transmission Systems Support
Support and troubleshoot:
Fiber optic networks (OTDR basics, attenuation issues)
Microwave radio links (LOS, interference, alignment issues)
SDH/PDH (E1/T1, STM levels)
DWDM/OTN systems
Perform loopbacks, cross-checks, and performance tests
Performance Monitoring & Optimization
Monitor KPIs: latency, packet loss, BER, jitter, utilization
Identify chronic issues and recurring faults
Assist in traffic rerouting and protection switching (ring, mesh, protection paths)
Support planned maintenance and network upgrades
Configuration & Change Management
Execute approved configuration changes during maintenance windows
Validate network stability post-change
Follow MOPs and change management processes
Roll back changes if issues occur
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate logs, shift handover notes, and incident reports
Prepare daily/weekly NOC performance reports
Update network diagrams and asset records when required
Contribute to Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports
Vendor & Cross-Team Coordination
Work with vendors (Huawei, Nokia, Ericsson, Cisco, Juniper, etc.)
Coordinate with IP, Core, Access, Power, and Field Operations teams
Support vendor troubleshooting calls and escalations
Required Skills & Knowledge
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of transmission technologies (Fiber, Microwave, SDH, DWDM)
Basic IP networking knowledge (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing fundamentals)
Familiarity with NMS/EMS tools
Alarm correlation and troubleshooting skills
Soft Skills
Ability to work under pressure in a 24/7 environment
Clear communication during incidents
Strong documentation and reporting habits
Team coordination and escalation judgment
