We're hiring for a " Lead Underwriter" with one of the leading BPO MNC based out of Chennai.
Job Role: Lead Underwriter
Experience: 6 to 10 Yrs
Shift Timing: Night Shift (Work from office)
Location: Chennai
Notice period: immediate to 30 days
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of Live Underwriters handling real-time loan applications
- Review and approve complex or high-value credit cases
- Ensure underwriting decisions comply with internal credit policies and regulatory guidelines
- Monitor live underwriting queues to meet SLAs and TAT requirements
- Provide real-time guidance and escalations support to underwriting team
- Conduct quality checks and audits on underwriting decisions
- Identify process gaps and recommend improvements for efficiency and risk control
- Coordinate with Sales, Credit Policy, Risk, and Operations teams
- Train, mentor, and coach team members on underwriting best practices
- Prepare and share MIS, productivity, and quality reports
Experience
- 6 to10 years of experience in underwriting (Retail / SME / Corporate lending)
- Minimum 1 - 2 years of experience in a team lead or supervisory role
- Hands-on experience in live underwriting processes
Key Skills
- Strong knowledge of credit appraisal and risk assessment
- Experience with retail loans (PL, HL, LAP, Auto) or SME loans
- Ability to analyze financial statements and bank statements
- Excellent decision-making and risk judgment skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Proficiency in LOS, LMS, and underwriting tools
- Good command over Excel and MIS reporting
