Job Description

Role Purpose

To act as a strategic finance business partner to the Engineering & Maintenance function, ensuring robust financial planning, cost control, contract evaluation, CAPEX governance, and compliance with applicable Ind AS standards, while supporting the airlines operational efficiency and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Partnering

  • Act as the single point of contact from Finance for Engineering & Maintenance leadership.
  • Partner with Engineering teams to provide financial insights that support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Support commercial negotiations related to technical contracts, maintenance agreements, and vendor engagements.
  • Review and evaluate engineering contracts from a financial and commercial perspective, ensuring cost efficiency and risk mitigation.
  • Provide financial input on vendor selection, pricing models, and long-term maintenance arrangements (e.g., MRO contracts, power-by-the-hour agreements).

2. Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Prepare and manage annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and long-term financial plans for Engineering & Maintenance functions.
  • Track actual performance against budget and forecast, analyze variances, and highlight key cost drivers.
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to Engineering leadership for cost optimization and efficiency improvement.
  • Develop and maintain engineering finance dashboards covering:
    • Maintenance and repair cost trends
    • Budget adherence and forecast accuracy
    • Key performance indicators (KPIs) related to reliability, utilization, and cost per flight hour/cycle

3. Engineering Cost Control

  • Monitor and control engineering-related expenses, including:
    • Maintenance and repair costs
    • Aircraft checks and overhauls
    • Spares, rotables, and consumables
  • Analyze cost per aircraft, per flight hour, and per cycle to identify savings opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with approved budgets and internal financial controls.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Supply Chain teams to drive cost efficiencies without compromising safety or regulatory compliance.

4. Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) Management

  • Evaluate, review, and provide financial approval for CAPEX proposals related to aircraft, engines, tooling, and engineering infrastructure.
  • Assess business cases, ROI, payback, and financial viability of proposed investments.
  • Track CAPEX utilization, capitalization, and asset commissioning in line with accounting standards.
  • Conduct post-investment reviews to evaluate actual benefits versus approved business cases.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Procurement teams to ensure strong project cost governance and financial discipline.

5. Accounting and Ind AS Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with relevant Ind AS standards, with specific focus on:
    • Ind AS 116 Leases (aircraft, engines, hangars, and equipment leases)
    • Ind AS 109 Financial Instruments (vendor financing, deposits, guarantees, and derivatives, if applicable)
  • Support accurate accounting, provisioning, and month-end close related to engineering costs and assets.
  • Liaise with auditors and internal stakeholders to ensure transparent and compliant financial reporting.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of airline engineering and maintenance cost structures
  • Commercial acumen and contract evaluation skills
  • Advanced budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis capabilities
  • Strong analytical and dashboarding skills (Excel, BI tools preferred)
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

Qualifications & Experience

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) / CPA / CMA / MBA (Finance)
  • Prior experience in business partnering with technical or engineering functions is highly desirable
