Job Summary
We are looking for a highly experienced and reliable Senior Sybase Database Administrator (DBA) with 6+ years of hands-on expertise in managing mission-critical Sybase ASE databases in high-availability production environments. The ideal candidate will ensure optimal performance, security, and uptime of enterprise database systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, upgrade, and patch Sybase ASE (15.x / 16.x) across Development, Test, UAT, and Production environments.
- Perform database performance monitoring and tuning using sp_sysmon, MDA tables, and query plans.
- Design and manage backup and recovery strategies using dump database/log and third-party tools.
- Implement and support High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) setups including:
- Sybase Replication Server
- Log Shipping
- Warm Standby
- Manage database security, users, roles, auditing, and encryption.
- Troubleshoot critical production issues related to blocking, deadlocks, I/O bottlenecks, memory, and tempdb.
- Handle capacity planning, space management, and storage optimization.
- Support database migrations, upgrades, platform transitions, and version upgrades.
- Automate routine DBA tasks using Shell scripting and SQL scripts.
- Work closely with application, infrastructure, and support teams.
Mandatory Skills
- 6+ years of hands-on experience as a Sybase DBA in production environments.
- Strong expertise in:
- Sybase ASE 15.x / 16.x
- Backup & Recovery
- Performance Tuning
- HA/DR (Replication Server, Log Shipping)
- Security & User Management
- Strong working knowledge of Linux/Unix.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with Sybase IQ / Sybase Replication Server
- Exposure to Oracle / SQL Server / PostgreSQL environments
- Cloud migration experience
- Education
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science / IT / Engineering
- Relevant database certifications (if any) are a plus
