Job Title: InDesign JavaScript Developer (Editorial Production Automation Engineer)
Experience: Minimum 4+ Years

We are seeking an experienced InDesign JavaScript Developer / Editorial Production Automation Engineer to join our production team on a 6-month contract. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Adobe InDesign automation, ExtendScript, and structured content workflows. This role focuses on building scripts and tools to streamline and automate editorial and production processes.System Requirement (Mandatory)
The candidate must have their own system or be able to arrange one for the entire contract duration with the following configuration:
Operating System: macOS 15.x (Sequoia)
Model Year: 2021 or later
Processor: Apple M1 or later
Memory: Minimum 16 GB RAMResponsibilities
Structure editorial content efficiently for automation workflows.
Create and maintain product and authoring templates in Adobe InDesign.
Develop programs and scripts to automate content flow into templates.
Design, develop, and maintain automation scripts and tools for Adobe InDesign using ExtendScript, Adobe UXP, and related technologies.
Automate production processes, including:
Creation of InDesign (INDD) files
Batch image manipulation and optimization
Generation of HTML, JSON, and XML outputs
Integration of editorial content with structured data formats
Collaborate with editorial, design, and production teams to identify automation opportunities and resolve workflow challenges.
Implement structured content workflows, including DITA XML or similar frameworks.
Develop and support tools for seamless data exchange between InDesign, XML, and other content systems.
Ensure automation solutions integrate smoothly with existing production pipelines.
Prepare technical documentation and provide training and ongoing support for automation tools.
Stay current with Adobe technologies (ExtendScript, UXP) and industry best practices.
Assist with exploratory projects involving Node.js, Python, or other programming tools as required.Required Skill and Qualification
Expert-level experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Adobe InDesign.
Strong expertise in ExtendScript for InDesign automation.
Proficiency in XML, including structured and semi-structured data handling.
Experience in developing automation scripts for editorial and production workflows.
