- The EBS Data & AI team is looking for a Staff Machine Learning Engineer who will drive the design, development, and deployment of scalable ML and AI solutions across Walmart s enterprise ecosystem.
You will partner closely with data scientists, data engineers, and application developers to operationalize models, improve performance, and deliver AI-driven capabilities that power automation, decision-making, and intelligent insights at scale. - This is a hands-on technical role that requires deep expertise in machine learning engineering, strong software development skills, and an eagerness to make AI tangible through robust production systems.
What you'll Do
- End-to-End ML Ownership: Design, develop, and deploy ML models into production systems at scale from data ingestion to serving.
- ML Platform Development: Build reusable frameworks, tools, and pipelines to accelerate model development and deployment (MLOps).
- Collaboration: Work with data scientists to productionize models, optimize training/inference, and integrate into enterprise applications.
- Architecture & Design: Design scalable ML systems leveraging modern cloud technologies and distributed architectures.
- Performance & Reliability: Drive improvements in model performance, scalability, and monitoring using observability tools.
- Automation: Streamline experimentation, deployment, and retraining processes through CI/CD and automation.
- Cross-Functional Influence: Collaborate with data engineering, software engineering, and platform teams to ensure smooth data and model workflows.
- Innovation: Evaluate and implement emerging AI/ML technologies, including generative AI, LLMs, and agentic AI systems, to solve real-world business challenges.
- Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other ML engineers and data scientists, setting high standards for ML quality and engineering rigor.
What you'll Bring
- Education: bachelors or masters degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field.
- Experience: 8+ years of hands-on experience in machine learning and software engineering, with at least 2 years in a staff-level or lead technical role.
Technical Expertise:
- Strong programming skills in Python , Java , or Scala .
- Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms , model optimization , and statistical techniques .
- Proficiency in ML frameworks : TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, or XGBoost.
- Experience with data engineering workflows Spark, Airflow, Kafka, or similar tools.
- Expertise in MLOps practices (CI/CD for ML, model monitoring, feature stores, ML pipeline orchestration).
- Hands-on experience with cloud ML platforms (AWS Sagemaker, Azure ML, Vertex AI, or Databricks).
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong background in SQL and data manipulation for large-scale datasets.
AI & GenAI Experience:
- Exposure to LLMs, generative AI, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) frameworks.
- Experience fine-tuning, deploying, or integrating LLMs into business applications is a strong plus.
Soft Skills & Leadership:
- Ability to bridge science and engineering translating models into scalable production systems.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Passion for mentoring, knowledge sharing, and driving cross-team collaboration.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with a bias for action and innovation.
Option 2: 6 years experience in software engineering, machine learning engineering, AI systems or related area.
