Job Description

The SQL Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of Microsoft SQL Server databases across enterprise environments. This role ensures the availability, integrity, and security of all database systems that support mission-critical business and healthcare applications. The DBA will proactively monitor database performance, implement optimizations, and manage backup and recovery processes to maintain system reliability and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances across production, staging, and development environments.
  • Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and perform tuning for optimal efficiency.
  • Implement and manage high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions, including Always-On, clustering, and replication.
  • Perform regular database backups, restores, and integrity checks.
  • Plan and execute database patching, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Manage database security, roles, and access controls in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Develop and maintain database automation scripts for maintenance, alerts, and reporting.
  • Support application teams in query optimization and schema design.
  • Maintain documentation of configurations, procedures, and recovery strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as HIPAA and internal audit policies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3-7 years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments.
  • Strong expertise in SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 administration and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency with T-SQL, PowerShell scripting, and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
  • Experience with backup and recovery tools such as Veritas NetBackup, Commvault, or native SQL maintenance plans.
  • Solid understanding of HA/DR architectures, clustering, and replication.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) Data Management and Analytics
  • ITIL Foundation Certification
Responsibilities
  • Provide Development and Production support for databases. This includes creating primary database storage structures; designing and creating primary objects; modifying database structure as necessary for enhancements or performance; monitoring and optimizing performance of the database; planning for backup and recovery of the database; allocating system storage and planning future storage needs; and creating database-related scripts and programs to support development and production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases across production, staging, and development environments.
  • Monitor database health, performance, and resource utilization; perform proactive tuning and optimization.
  • Implement and manage high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions including Always-On Availability Groups, clustering, mirroring, and replication.
  • Perform regular backups, restores, and integrity checks to ensure data protection and recoverability.
  • Plan and execute database patching, version upgrades, and migrations with minimal downtime.
  • Manage database security, roles, and access permissions in accordance with organizational and compliance policies.
  • Automate recurring maintenance and monitoring tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, or SQL Agent Jobs.
  • Support application teams with query optimization, index management, and schema design.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, maintenance schedules, and recovery procedures.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and security teams to ensure database reliability, scalability, and compliance with internal standards and HIPAA regulations.
