Principal AI Engineer -Document Intelligence & Automation
Who We Are
Cync transforms unstructured enterprise documents into structured intelligence with extremely high accuracy powering real-world financial workflows at scale. Banks, credit unions, and financial institutions rely on Cync to extract critical data from PDFs, spreadsheets, financial statements, rent rolls, invoices, and compliance documents enabling AI-driven decisioning, underwriting, servicing, and compliance automation
Cync is an AI-based document processing solution that employs the latest advances in vision models and LLMs to offer a robust and reliable approach to document processing. It intelligently understands the layout of a document and uses specialized processing pipelines for every content type, from multicolumn layouts and tables to images and graphs.
Document processing a core bottleneck for enterprises and Cync's product offers a promising new solution to the problem. Businesses across lending, insurance, and healthcare use Cync to significantly reduce the hours spent on routine manual tasks like data entry, and are able to do so with securely and accurately.
Most enterprise data 80%+ remains locked in PDFs and scanned images. Traditional OCR and generic ML tools break down on complex layouts, multi-column text, nested tables, images, charts, and handwritten fields.
Cync solves this by combining:
Vision models built for structured document comprehension
Large Language Models for contextual understanding
Heuristics + workflow automation tailored for financial institutions
End-to-end pipelines that map extracted data to credit, servicing, and compliance workflows
We are now productizing this internal platform into a scalable, standalone solution that supports AI ingestion for all lending + deposit processes.
To get there, were hiring a Director of Engineering who will scale the entire technical organization architecture, people, practices, delivery, and AI innovation.
What Youll Lead
This is a hands-on, high-impact leadership role:
Engineering & Technical Leadership
- Own the technical roadmap for Cyncs AI Document Intelligence platform
- Drive execution across multiple engineering teams:
- LOS AI ingestion, Servicing workflow automation, Vision AI, Integrations, Cloud Infra
- Architect modular, scalable pipelines for:
- Financial statements + tax returns
- Rent rolls + leases
- Appraisals + construction docs
- Borrowing base collateral files
- KYC/identity docs for deposits
- Build guardrails to ensure accuracy, traceability, compliance + explainability
Platform & Productization
- Convert one-off extraction workflows into a configurable platform:
- Document Layout Sub-section segmentation
- Contextual parsing based on content type
- Automatic table + image data conversion
- Natural language-based field extraction
- Retrieval pipelines powered by document metadata & embeddings
- Ensure interoperability across Origination Servicing Core banking systems
Execution & Scale
- Establish high-velocity engineering processes and release discipline
- Scale engineering headcount 23+ hires/month while raising the bar
- Implement modern observability, testing automation, and performance engineering
- Drive cost-efficient cloud scaling and AI model operations (model versioning, evaluation)
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partner with Product to turn customer workflows into intelligent automation
- Collaborate with Sales/Pre-Sales for enterprise deployments
- Work with Compliance/Risk to meet banking regulatory expectations
- Represent engineering in customer and executive steering sessions
What You Bring
- 12+ years of engineering experience with 3+ years leading teams
- Built & scaled:
- AI/ML or data platforms
- Workflow automation or enterprise SaaS
- High-availability, secure production environments
- Deep familiarity with LLMs + Vision Models (OCR not enough)
- Strong architectural ability event-driven, streaming, microservices, vector DB
- Proven ability to turn messy, unstructured data into reliable structured outputs
- Experience integrating with financial systems: core, GL, banking APIs
- Youve lived through scale: dozens to hundreds of engineers, before that you have worked at a well-run, high-bar company where you learned what great engineering culture looks like
- A true builder who enjoys hands-on contribution where needed
