SAP AI Product Engineering is part of the SAP Business AI unit and a key driver of the Intelligent Enterprise. Our mission is to infuse all enterprise applications with Artificial Intelligence capabilities, empowering our customers to maximize their business data.
We are responsible for foundational products such as SAP Generative AI Hub, AI Core, and AI Launchpad that help application developers embed AI capabilities into their solutions. Our global teams are located in Germany, Singapore, and India, working in an innovative, start-up-like environment where ideas are nurtured and cutting-edge solutions are built.
What You ll Do
As a Senior Platform Engineer , you will take end-to-end ownership of key platform components within SAP AI Core and the Generative AI Hub. You will design, build, optimize, and operate foundational services that power SAP s enterprise AI ecosystem.
This is a hands-on senior engineering role with a clear exposure to architectural responsibilities. You will influence system design, own cross-domain technical flows, and gradually evolve into an architectural leader while still actively coding.
End-to-End Engineering Ownership
Own backend/platform components across design, development, testing, deployment, and operational support.
Deliver complex features independently with high ownership and transparency.
Drive deep technical investigations, performance tuning, and reliability improvements.
System Design
Participate in architectural discussions and propose scalable, secure, and maintainable design enhancements.
Write technical design documents, sequence diagrams, and flow specifications.
Understand and contribute to cross-component flows (executions, pipelines, monitoring, provisioning, model lifecycle)
Evaluate technology choices, integration patterns, and long-term platform evolution.
Core Platform Engineering Responsibilities
Build cloud-native microservices using Python / Java / Go
Design secure, scalable APIs and integrate with SAP BTP and hyperscaler services.
Enhance observability with logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, and alerts.
Improve CI/CD pipelines, automation, and developer productivity tooling.
Implement strong engineering and security best practices.
DevOps, Stability & Performance Engineering
Support productive customer workloads and internal platform consumers.
Troubleshoot incidents, analyze root causes, and drive permanent fixes.
Improve system throughput, performance, resilience, and cost efficiency.
Ensure platform reliability through automated testing and continuous improvements.
Collaboration & Mentoring
Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and technical guidance.
Collaborate closely with global teams across time zones.
Contribute to org-wide engineering initiatives and platform-wide improvements.
What You Bring
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
5-10 years of strong experience in software/platform engineering.
Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, OOP, design patterns, and software design principles
Deep understanding of algorithms, distributed systems, API design, microservices, and clean coding principles.
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, cloud-native patterns, and deployment on BTP or AWS/Azure/GCP.
Expertise in at least one modern programming language: Python, Java, Go, TypeScript.
Proven experience building and operating microservices at scale.
Strong debugging and problem-solving capabilities across distributed systems.
Solid experience with CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI).
Working knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or equivalent).
Exposure to Generative AI, LLMs, embeddings, or RAG architectures.
Ability to drive technical direction, write design proposals, and make trade-off decisions.
Excellent communication, ownership mindset, and proactive attitude
