Job Title: Backup Administrator
Department: IT Data & Platform (ITIP)
Location: Bangalore
Position Purpose
The Backup Administration function plays a crucial role in ensuring that all production assets are protected through robust backup policies, enabling reliable restoration to previous points when required. The role is critical to maintaining service availability, performance, and compliance across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Responsibilities
- Manage and support the backup infrastructure for major Asian and European countries where BNP Paribas operates.
- Ensure backup and restore services for servers, databases, and NAS environments.
- Maintain high performance and availability for a mission-critical backup environment covering critical assets.
- Contribute to high availability (HA) architecture and operational stability.
- Rapidly acquire new technical skills to support emerging technologies and platforms.
- Demonstrate high reactivity, proactive improvements, and effective follow-up on action plans related to new projects or incident remediation.
- Participate in day-to-day operations (Run activities) and infrastructure evolution projects.
- Work in alignment with ITIL methodologies across all operational activities.
Contributing Responsibilities
Business Relationship Management
- Liaise with Business Application Teams, Regional IT Teams, Global Infrastructure Support, and IT Security Teams to resolve incidents, complete operational tasks, and deliver projects on time.
Governance
- Plan and deliver assigned projects from initiation to closure, ensuring milestones and deadlines are met.
- Own and manage SLA-related activities for the backup tower, including SLA definition, reporting, and dashboard creation.
- Coordinate closely with the Global Head of the relevant functional area.
- Ensure compliance with Group IT Security guidelines and Global ITI&P Governance standards.
- Validate backup architecture and ensure adherence to approved designs.
- Execute operational controls and ensure closure of audit findings related to the backup tower.
Technical & Behavioral Competencies
Essential Skills
- Strong expertise in Veritas NetBackup on Linux environments (GUI & CLI setup, administration, and troubleshooting).
- Strong knowledge of IBM TSM and experience in TSM to NetBackup migration.
- Expertise with EMC Data Domain and OST integration with NetBackup.
- Experience with Quantum tape libraries.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a similar backup administration role.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Proven ability to deliver strategic objectives within tight timelines.
- Strong customer service orientation.
Desirable Skills
- Backup architecture design experience (Veritas NetBackup Data Domain Quantum i6k).
- Scripting and automation skills (Shell, Bash, Python, Ansible).
- Additional experience with TSM environments.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent.
- ITIL Foundation Certification (desirable).
Experience Level
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience.
