Job Description
Connects- We are seeking an experienced Duck Creek Billing Architect to lead the design, configuration, integration and implementation of the Duck Creek Billing solution in a P&C insurance environment. You will provide technical leadership, oversee solution architecture, work closely with business and technical stakeholders, and ensure that billing business processes are delivered efficiently, robustly and aligned with strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the billing stream (or work-stream) of a Duck Creek implementation or upgrade project from requirements through design, build, test, and go-live/support.
- Define solution architecture for Duck Creek Billing: billing plans, pay plan structure, agency billing, direct billing, installment schedules, collection and lockbox processes, invoice generation, accounting/GL integrations, commissions, disbursements.
- Translate business requirements into technical/functional design: working with business analysts, product owners and stakeholders to understand billing business rules, regulatory and compliance requirements, and mapping these into Duck Creek Billing configuration or customisations.
- Configure, customise and extend Duck Creek Billing modules: setup of Manuscripts/Forms/Skins, pay plans, billing calendars, notices, collections, commissions, direct/agency billing, etc.
- Lead and/or mentor a team of technical resources (developers, configuration specialists, QA) for the billing domain. Provide guidance, reviews and ensure best practices.
- Estimate effort, produce design artefacts, contribute to proposal or project estimation for billing work-streams.
- Oversee third-party integrations: ensure billing system integrates with other enterprise systems such as General Ledger, lockbox/collections, payment gateways, policy system, commissions system, external services.
- Provide production support and defect triaging for billing modules understand incident/defect flows, root-cause analysis, fix and improve.
- Participate in data migration efforts from legacy billing systems into Duck Creek Billing (ensuring data integrity, correct mapping of billing events).
- Ensure solution adheres to architecture standards, scalability, maintainability, performance (especially for billing high volumes of transactions) and upgrade readiness.
- Maintain technical documentation, configuration guides, run-books, knowledge artefacts and help build internal competency around Duck Creek Billing.
- Stay current with Duck Creek platform releases and leverage new capabilities to provide business value.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience (typically 8-12 years) in P&C insurance billing domain, including implementations of Duck Creek Billing (onpremises and/or OnDemand).
- Deep functional coverage across billing: agency billing, direct billing, commissions/disbursements, installments, collection/lockbox, GL integration, billing plans.
- Technical expertise on the Duck Creek platform (Billing module) such as: Manuscripts, Forms/Skins, Express, Transact, XSLT/XML transformations, SQL-Server, .NET/C#, JavaScript, environment configuration.
- Experience in solution/technical architecture: ability to design solutions, lead technical decisions, estimate work, mentor junior staff.
- Experience integrating with external systems (payment gateways, GL systems, collections/lockbox, third-party billing services).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to interact and communicate with business and technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with insurance business processes (P&C domain), billing workflows, regulatory/compliance rhythms.
- Preferred: Experience with cloud deployments, OnDemand versions of Duck Creek, and solution upgrades/migrations.
