Job Description
- As a Principal Software Engineer at Atlassian, you will be a technical leader and hands-on contributor responsible for designing and optimizing high-scale, distributed storage systems. Your role will involve shaping the architecture, performance, and reliability of backend storage solutions that power critical applications at scale. - Design, implement, and optimize backend storage services to support high throughput, low latency, and fault tolerance. - Collaborate closely with senior engineers, architects, and cross-functional teams to drive scalability, availability, and efficiency improvements in large-scale storage solutions. - Lead technical deep dives, architecture reviews, and root cause analyses to address complex production issues related to storage performance, consistency, and durability. To qualify for this role, you should have: - A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field. - At least 8 years of experience in backend software development with a focus on distributed systems and storage solutions. - Proficiency in a major backend programming language such as Kotlin, Java, Go, Rust, or Python. Your expertise will be crucial in mentoring senior engineers, contributing to technical roadmaps, and shaping the long-term storage strategy. You will play a key role in improving system performance and reliability through your knowledge of storage consistency models, data partitioning, indexing, and caching strategies. Furthermore, you will collaborate with Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) to implement management interfaces, observability, and monitoring to ensure high availability and compliance with industry standards. Advocating for automation, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), DevOps best practices, Kubernetes (EKS), and CI/CD pipelines will be instrumental in enabling scalable deployments and operational excellence. Your expertise in large-scale storage systems, distributed systems, scalability, high-performance backend engineering, cloud-native infrastructure automation, performance optimization, observability, security, compliance, data protection, leadership, and architectural strategy will be essential for success in this role.
