Role Summary We are looking for a power systems engineer with strong expertise in relay protection settings and configuration logic, particularly in the context of protection software applications. The ideal candidate will support the development, validation, and maintenance of ETAP's eProtect product by implementing accurate import/export mapping logic for a variety of protective relays (e.g., SEL, ABB, Siemens, GE, MiCOM). The applicant may also contribute to other protection-related software solutions within the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and map relay setting files (XRIO, XML, RDB, URS, CSV) into ETAPs internal configuration format.
- Implement protection function logic mapping (OC, EF, Diff, Distance, etc.).
- Develop and validate mapping logic using C# within ETAPs software framework.
- Develop and test ETAP library modules for vendor-specific protection functions.
- Design and maintain test cases based on vendor specifications and ETAP feature requirements.
- Assist in automation and testing of relay settings for AsFound / AsDesigned comparisons.
- Maintain documentation of mapping specifications and vendor-specific logic rules.
- Collaborate with protection and software teams to maintain consistent mapping quality.
- Analyze technical issues and provide effective solutions.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical/Power Engineering.
- Strong background in protection schemes and relay coordination.
- Experience with ETAP or other power system analysis tools.
- Familiarity with OEM relay configuration tools such as SEL QuickSet, Siemens DIGSI, etc.
- Hands-on experience with relay setting formats (SEL, ABB, Siemens, GE).
- Proficiency in C#, XML, and Python for software mapping and logic scripting.
- Understanding of IEC/ANSI protection functions (e.g., 50, 51, 87, 21, 67).
- Experience working with COMTRADE files and disturbance analysis.
- Must be willing to work with partial overlap during Pacific Standard Time (PST) hours for collaboration with ETAP USA.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills.
