Job Description
Role & responsibilities
We are seeking an experienced AS/400 (IBM i) Engineer with at least 7+ years of hands-on experience migrating, managing, and supporting IBM i environments.
This role is ideal for candidates who can operate independently, take responsibility for SLA-driven delivery, and play a leadership role within the support team. You will act as a technical lead for IBM i environments, mentoring colleagues, driving root cause analysis, and working closely with Service Managers and client stakeholders.
Preferred candidate profile
- 7+ years experience in IBM i (AS/400/iSeries) environments, with proven expertise in both system operations and application support.
- Strong programming/debugging skills in RPG, RPGLE, SQLRPGLE, CL, COBOL/400, and DB2/400.
- Demonstrable experience in:
- Mobilising or migrating IBM i estates into hosted or cloud-based platforms.
- Running EOD/EOW/EOM processes.
- Supporting 200+ concurrent IBM i users.
- Managing backups, restore testing, and DR rehearsals.
- SLA-driven service delivery (99.5% uptime).
- Hands-on knowledge of licensed IBM i tools: SQL Dev Kit, DB2 Query Manager, WebSphere Development Studio, Client Access.
- Experience applying PTFs and system upgrades.
- Strong understanding of ITIL processes in Incident, Problem, and Change Management.
- Experience preparing reports, presenting RCA, and working with Service Managers and clients.
- Proven leadership skills leading teams, developing junior engineers, mentoring colleagues, and driving best practices across the IBM i function.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate in a global delivery/offshore model.
