Job description:
Using SQL queries to extract data from databases, then creating and maintaining reports using reporting tools to provide critical business insights; this role primarily focuses on troubleshooting reporting issues, supporting users with report requests, and ensuring data accuracy within the reports, often collaborating with both technical and business teams to understand reporting needs.
Key responsibilities of a SQL Reporting Support role:
Data Extraction and Querying:
Write complex SQL queries to retrieve data from various databases for report generation.
Optimize queries for performance and efficiency.Analyze data to identify trends and patterns for reporting purposes.
Report Development and Maintenance:
Design and build reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or other reporting tools.
Modify existing reports to accommodate changing business requirements.
User Support:
Respond to user queries regarding report access, interpretation, and troubleshooting.
Train users on how to navigate and utilize reports effectively.
Investigate and resolve issues related to report data accuracy or formatting.
Data Quality Assurance:Monitor data quality within reports, identifying and addressing data inconsistencies.
Implement data validation checks to ensure report reliability.
Collaboration:Work closely with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs and translate them into technical specifications.
Collaborate with database administrators to manage data access and security.
Required Skills:
Proficient SQL skills:
Strong understanding of SQL syntax, functions, and query optimization techniques.
Reporting Tool Expertise: Familiarity with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or other reporting platforms.
Data Analysis Skills:
Ability to interpret data and identify key insights for reporting.
Problem-solving: Effective troubleshooting skills to resolve reporting issues.
Communication Skills: Clear communication with both technical and non-technical users to understand reporting requirements
