As per Coal Mines Regulations 2017, Regulation No. 47, the role of an Overman in coal mining operations is multifaceted and critical for ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance. Some of the key duties and responsibilities of an Overman include:
- Supervising Underground Workings: Overseeing underground mining activities, including drilling, blasting, and extraction, to ensure adherence to safety protocols and operational standards.
- Ensuring Compliance: Enforcing compliance with statutory regulations, mine plans, and safety procedures to mitigate risks and prevent accidents in the workplace.
- Managing Ventilation Systems: Monitoring and managing ventilation systems to maintain adequate airflow and prevent the accumulation of harmful gases, ensuring a safe working environment for miners.
- Conducting Inspections: Conducting regular inspections of mine workings, equipment, and infrastructure to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement corrective measures promptly.
- Training and Development: Providing training and guidance to mining personnel on safety procedures, equipment operation, and emergency response protocols to enhance awareness and preparedness.
- Emergency Response: Leading emergency response efforts in the event of accidents, fires, or other emergencies, coordinating rescue operations and ensuring the safety of all personnel.
- Record-Keeping and Reporting: Maintaining accurate records of mining activities, safety inspections, and incidents, and preparing reports for regulatory authorities as per compliance requirements.
Preferred candidate profile
DEGREE / DIPLOMA IN MINING WITH MINIMUM 2 TO 5 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE.
