We are seeking a highly motivated Design Engineer Wiper Systems to join our Automotive Engineering team. The role involves the concept design, 3D modeling, simulation, and validation of windshield wiper systems (linkage, arms, blades, and motor brackets) using CATIA and relevant automotive standards.
The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams (body, electrical, NVH, purchasing, and suppliers) to deliver robust, cost-effective, and innovative wiper solutions that meet safety, regulatory, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Concept & Design
Develop wiper system concepts (linkages, arms, blades, motors, brackets) based on windshield geometry and OEM requirements.
Create and manage parametric 3D models and assemblies in CATIA V5/V6 (Part Design, Assembly Design, DMU Kinematics, Generative Shape Design).
Conduct kinematic studies to validate sweep coverage, park position, and interference-free operation.
Engineering Analysis
Perform torque, load, and durability calculations (dry/wet wipe, snow/ice load, aerodynamic effects).
Validate NVH performance, stiffness, and durability using FEA/CAE tools (desirable).
Execute tolerance stack-ups and GD&T per ASME Y14.5 / ISO GPS standards.
Validation & Testing
Support Design Verification (DV) and Production Validation (PV) testing (wipe quality, coverage, endurance, corrosion, noise, and vibration).
Analyze test failures and implement design changes through ECOs.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Work with suppliers on DFM/DFA, material selection, and cost reduction initiatives.
Interface with body design, electrical, and manufacturing teams to ensure proper integration of wiper systems.
Ensure compliance with global automotive standards (FMVSS 104, ECE R43, etc.).
Documentation & Release
Prepare and release detailed engineering drawings, BOM, and specifications in PLM systems.
Maintain version control, design history, and support project timelines.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical / Automotive Engineering (Masters preferred).
6 to10 years of experience in automotive wiper design / closure systems / mechanism design.
Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 (Part Design, Assembly Design, DMU Kinematics, Drafting).
Knowledge of wiper system components: motor, linkage, arms, blades, spindles, brackets.
Understanding of material selection (steel, aluminum, polymers, coatings) and manufacturing processes (stamping, casting, injection molding).
Familiarity with automotive standards (FMVSS, ECE, ISO).
Experience with PLM tools (Teamcenter, Enovia, or equivalent).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
