Job Description
This position primarily focuses on sheet metal processes but also requires a solid understanding of costing and purchasing.
While the candidate will not be directly responsible for all costing or purchasing activities, they must have sufficient knowledge to support these functions and to act as a next-level Process Engineer.
Sheet Metal Process engineer with strong technical expertise in sheet metal fabrication processes, combined with practical knowledge of cost estimation & sourcing The role involves working closely with design, production, and procurement teams to ensure cost-effective and efficient delivery of sheet metal components and assemblies.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for design review, material selection, vendor coordination, cost analysis, and process optimization to meet project requirements while maintaining quality and cost competitiveness.
Key responsibility:
- Interpret and analyze engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications for manufacturability.
- Develop process plansfor sheet metal parts including cutting, bending, forming, welding, and finishing. (Should be familiar on Cutting / Bending / Welding operations)
- Define accurate material requirementsand optimize nesting for sheet utilization (CAM software knowledge) Ensure compliance with industry standards, tolerances, and quality requirements.
- Troubleshoot technical issues during fabrication and coordinate corrective actions with production teams.
- Review customer drawings and manage all Design for Manufacturing (DFM) activities.
- Execute value engineering projects to optimize process time and reduce overall costs.
- Prepare detailed cost breakdownscovering material, labor, machining, finishing, assembly, and logistics. Conduct make or buy analysisto determine cost-effective production approaches.
Track and update material price trends(steel, aluminum, special alloys, etc.) and advise management. Prepare and review quotes for customer submissions.
Identify reliable suppliers and subcontractors for sheet metal materials and services.
- Issue and manage RFQs (Request for Quotations) to multiple vendors.
Evaluate supplier quotations for technical compliance, cost competitiveness, and lead time.
- Coordinate with purchasing teams to minimize material shortages and excess inventory.
Skills and experience -
- Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years experience in sheet metal fabrication, or manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes, including cutting (Laser Cutting / Turret Punch), bending, welding, and surface finishing is essential.
- Strong decision-making skills, particularly in selecting alternative methods or materials to drive process improvements and cost reductions.
Good understanding of supply chain and purchasing procedures.
- Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD Inventor, or equivalent).
- Strong negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams
Probation period: 36 months
