Job Title: STEM Academic Copy-Editor (English; Contractual Role)

About the Role
We seek experienced and detail-oriented Academic Content Annotators with academic
proficiency in English to support a high-impact AI training project. This role is ideal for
individuals with strong academic backgrounds and an eye for detail.
As part of the Scholars program, you will work with a global team of subject matter
experts to evaluate and curate educational materials and academic publications in your
field of expertise. Your work will involve assessing the quality and clarity of academic
documents and improving the structure and completeness of related content.
Key Responsibilities
You will contribute to a workflow focused on academic materials:
Identifying and correcting text and formatting issues, including correcting
mathematical formulas and typesetting scientific notation in LaTeX and markdown.
These tasks require strong academic judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work
across multiple disciplines.
A Typical Day
Validating and correcting machine-generated text - reviewing text extracted from
PDFs for fidelity and formatting errors.
Model assessment evaluating AI-generated content.
Validating computations and code (for STEM applicants) - checking the logical
cohesion, accuracy, and notation/style of academic materials.
Quality & ethics reviews flagging bias, inaccuracies, or unsafe content.
Info syncs communicating with the team: short standups or workshops on new
project approaches giving data feedback and refining edge-case guidance.
Academic Background
We are looking for individuals with minimum BA-level experience in one or more of the
following areas (or related STEM disciplines):
STEM: Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
Other Related Disciplines
Required Skills & Qualifications
Fluency in English, with C1-level reading & writing proficiency, including familiarity
with discipline-specific vocabulary, academic discourse, technical jargon,
scientific notation, and stylistic norms in English.
Experience with LaTeX, markdown, and familiarity with mathematical notation.
Self-directed learning capabilities and the ability to follow complex instructions.
High attention to detail and consistency in annotation work.
Patience with ambiguity and a gracious approach to accepting feedback.
Clear and respectful communication skills in written environments.
Comfortable working independently and meeting deadlines in a remote
environment.
Preferred Qualifications
University-level coursework at an English-language institution.
Prior experience with annotation, quality review, or AI training projects.
Experience reviewing academic content for quality, e.g., conference abstract
reviewer, journal reviewer, copy-editor, teaching assistantship.
