Job Summary: The Lead Design Engineer will be responsible for leading and overseeing the design and engineering activities for offshore oil and gas projects, ensuring technical integrity, compliance with industry codes and standards, and adherence to project schedules and budgets. This role requires a strong technical background in [relevant discipline], extensive experience in offshore engineering, and proven leadership capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Leadership & Management:
    • Lead and manage a team of engineers and designers within the [relevant discipline] to develop detailed designs for offshore facilities (e.g., platforms, FPSOs, subsea structures, topsides, pipelines).
    • Oversee the entire design lifecycle from conceptual design, FEED (Front-End Engineering Design), and detailed engineering through to commissioning and handover.
    • Ensure all designs comply with international codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., API, ASME, DNV, ISO, IEC, ABS, Classification Society rules, client specifications).
    • Establish design philosophies, specifications, and procedures for the discipline.
    • Develop and implement innovative design solutions to optimize efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Technical Expertise & Assurance:
    • Perform and review complex engineering calculations, analyses, and simulations (e.g., structural analysis, stress analysis, fluid dynamics, electrical load calculations, instrument sizing).
    • Prepare and approve technical documentation, including design reports, specifications, datasheets, drawings (P&IDs, SLDs, GA drawings, fabrication drawings), MTOs (Material Take-Offs), and design change notices.
    • Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
    • Conduct technical reviews, inter-discipline checks, and participate in HAZOP, SIL, and other safety studies.
    • Resolve technical issues and design conflicts during all project phases.
  • Project Execution & Coordination:
    • Collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines (Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Piping, Civil, etc.), project management, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams.
    • Manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation for the [relevant discipline] scope.
    • Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, vendors, and regulatory bodies for design-related matters.
    • Support procurement activities by preparing technical requisitions, evaluating vendor proposals, and reviewing vendor documentation.
