IT Asset Manager is responsible for defining, implementing, and governing the IT Asset Management (ITAM) framework, covering both Hardware Asset Management (HAM) and Software Asset Management (SAM). This role oversees the complete lifecycle of IT assetsfrom procurement and deployment to maintenance, retirement, and secure disposalensuring compliance, cost efficiency, and optimized utilization. The IT Asset Manager collaborates with Procurement, Finance, Security, and IT Operations to enforce governance, improve asset visibility, and deliver measurable business value.
Role and Responsibilities
- Define and enforce ITAM policies, standards, and procedures.
- Manage end-to-end lifecycle of hardware and software assets (procurement, deployment, refresh, retirement, disposal).
- Maintain accurate asset repository/CMDB with integration to discovery tools and finance systems.
- Track and manage hardware assets (servers, endpoints, network devices, mobile devices), including warranty and contract renewals.
- Oversee secure decommissioning and data sanitization for retired assets.
- Manage software licenses (allocation, renewals, vendor audits, compliance).
- Optimize license entitlements and reclaim unused licenses.
- Partner with Procurement for vendor negotiations and Finance for cost allocation, budgeting, and depreciation tracking.
- Support audits and compliance requirements with accurate reporting.
- Deliver dashboards and reports on asset utilization, compliance status, and cost savings.
- Identify automation opportunities in asset tracking, reporting, and license management.
- Establish KPIs and drive accountability across teams.
Required Skills
- 710 years of overall IT experience with at least 5+ years dedicated to IT Asset Management (HAM & SAM).
- Proven experience in IT Asset Management (HAM & SAM) in medium/large enterprises.
- Strong knowledge of CMDB management, ITSM processes, and ITAM tools (ServiceNow, Flexera, Snow, Ivanti, etc.).
- Expertise in procurement processes, vendor management, and contract negotiations.
- Understanding of financial alignment: budgeting, cost allocation, depreciation tracking.
- Familiarity with IT security, data protection, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills with experience in dashboards/scorecards.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Certifications preferred: ITIL, ITAM Certified Professional (CAMP/CSAM)
- Hands-on experience in implementing and managing ITAM processes, tools, and governance frameworks.
- Experience in working with cross-functional teams including Procurement, Finance, Security, and IT Operations.
- Prior involvement in supporting IT audits, compliance checks, and large-scale asset lifecycle projects."
