"Configuration Manager is responsible for the design, governance, and ongoing maintenance of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB). This role ensures that the CMDB acts as a single source of truth for all Configuration Items (CIs) and supports key IT Service Management (ITSM) processes such as Incident, Problem, Change, and Release Management. The individual will drive CMDB governance, accuracy, and adoption across IT functions, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and organizational standards.
Role and Responsibilities
- Designing and maintaining the CMDB data model, CI classes, attributes, and relationships.
- Ensuring accuracy, integrity, and completeness of CMDB data through governance and validation.
- Governing the lifecycle of Configuration Items (CIs) in compliance with change processes.
- Integrating CMDB with ITSM processes (Incident, Problem, Change, Release).
- Conducting audits, reconciliations, and validations against discovery tools and asset records.
- Overseeing ingestion of CI data from automated discovery tools and integrations.
- Defining and enforcing standardization of CI attributes and naming conventions.
- Developing dashboards, reports, and KPIs on CMDB health and compliance.
- Providing training and guidance to IT and business stakeholders on CMDB processes.
- Acting as the custodian of CMDB governance, compliance, and audit readiness."
Required Skills
- 5+ years in IT Service Management with at least 3 years in Configuration Management.
- Strong understanding of ITIL frameworks (v3/v4 preferred).
- Proven experience in CMDB administration, CI modeling, and configuration/asset management.
- Hands-on expertise with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow, Ivanti, BMC Remedy, or similar.
- Knowledge of automated discovery tools, integration methods, and data reconciliation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for identifying discrepancies and ensuring data accuracy.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across IT and business functions.
- Experience in developing governance policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks.
- ITIL Foundation certification (preferred).
- Exposure to enterprise IT environments (servers, networks, applications, cloud)."
