Major Roles & Responsibilities Patient Assessment & Preparation
Assess patients health status before dialysis treatment.
Prepare patients physically and emotionally for the procedure.
Vascular Access Management
Insert and maintain vascular access (fistulas, grafts, catheters) according to medical protocols.
Monitor for signs of infection or complications.
Dialysis Machine Operation
Set up, operate, and monitor dialysis machines according to prescribed treatment plans.
Ensure correct dialyzer, dialysate, and settings are used for each patient.
Treatment Monitoring
Continuously monitor patients vital signs and responses during treatment.
Adjust machine settings as per medical orders or patient condition.
Infection Control & Safety
Follow strict infection control practices to prevent cross-contamination.
Maintain sterile techniques and proper disposal of medical waste.
Fluid & Medication Management
Administer prescribed medications during dialysis sessions.
Monitor and manage fluid removal according to treatment goals.
Emergency Response
Recognize and respond quickly to complications such as hypotension, clotting, or cardiac arrest.
Initiate CPR or other emergency interventions when required.
Patient Education & Support
Educate patients and families on dialysis care, diet, and lifestyle changes.
Provide emotional support to patients coping with chronic kidney disease.
Documentation & Reporting
Record treatment details, patient responses, and any incidents in medical charts.
Communicate patient progress and concerns to the healthcare team.
Continuous Learning & Professional Development
Stay updated with advancements in dialysis techniques, equipment, and best practices.
Attend training sessions and comply with healthcare regulations and standards.
