We're looking for an Applications Engineer to join Avalara's People Technology team - a group that builds internal employee systems to simplify how 5,000+ global employees experience work. As an Applications Engineer, you will design, code, and enhance different parts of our digital employee experience ecosystem. This is a newly created role and offers the chance to shape foundational systems from the ground up. You'll build the interfaces, integrations, and automation layers that connect our HR platforms (including Workday) with the rest of our platforms. You will report to Manager, People Technology Architecture.
What Your Responsibilities Will Be
- You will work on diverse projects that make our employee experiences seamless, pleasant and efficient for our workforce around the globe.
- You will build secure integrations and tools that improve employee experience and improve people processes globally.
- You will enhance Workday (our primary HRIS), build integrations across systems and build custom interfaces with security and reliability.
- Evaluate, experiment with and rollout AI capabilities to extend product functionality.
- You will manage deliverables from design through deployment, ensuring quality and reliability.
What You'll Need to be Successful
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in full-stack software development.
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages such as C#, Java or JavaScript.
- Experience approaching and analyzing problem from different angles.
- Solid experience with RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, and other data interchange formats.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services and managing CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with a relational database such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
