Job Description
Responsibilities -
- Design, develop, test, and deploy efficient and reliable SQL code for MySQL/MariaDB databases
supporting a high-volume transactional platform.
- Collaborate with DBAs, Database Developers, Architects, and Application Developers to deliver
innovative database solutions and resolve complex performance and scalability challenges.
- Maintain and improve existing database code and structures to ensure optimal data retrieval and
processing efficiency for millions of users and millions of daily transactions.
- Implement and adhere to SQL coding standards and best practices, ensuring code quality,
security, and maintainability within a 24/7 operational environment.
- Utilize DataOps principles, including Git for source control and Liquibase for managing and
deploying database schema changes.
- Monitor and analyse database performance, identifying bottlenecks and implementing
optimisations through query tuning and database configuration adjustments.
- Collaborate with the wider team to understand new data requirements, provide technical
support, and contribute to system consistency and overall performance.
- Produce comprehensive documentation, adhere to change control processes, and effectively
communicate technical information and estimates to both technical and non-technical
stakeholders.
Experience & Skills -
- Experience in developing highly efficient code for high volume transactional sites such as
e-commerce or online gaming in a senior role.
- Significant experience as a SQL Database Developer with strong focus on MySQL/MariaDB or
Oracle PL/SQL.
- Knowledge of standards and best practises in SQL
- Experience of supporting a 24x7, high traffic OLTP environment
- Working knowledge of DataOps principles, including using Git for source control &
Liquibase for data migrations.
- Experience with some level of database performance monitoring and analysis
- Good understanding of RDBMS systems
- Experience in handling database performance optimisation via query or DB optimisation
- Good knowledge of Linux, preferably CentOS or Rocky
- Experience of ensuring coding standards, producing detailed documentation, and sharing ideas
in a clear and concise manner.
- Adept at taking requirements and producing accurate estimates of work
- Experience of implementing new methodologies and adopting different technology frameworks
- Experience of working within Change Control constraints.
