Education, experience and formal training
a) Junior Resident - Post MBBS with an experience of 0 - 3 years
- DNB - Fellow - General Specialty
Department/Division: - Surgical / Medical unit
Job content: Resident / Sr. Resident are expected to visit the patients under their care and see that all examinations/ investigation are completed. When starting the round priority must be given to critical patients. All patients should be visited again at the time of handing over charge. They should also inform the Consultant about the admission of patients soon after examining the patient. While making entries in the case sheet the Resident/ Registrar should clearly note down the date and time of the examination with name & signature.
Duties:-
- Clinical -
- a. Support In / Out Patient Procedures
- b. To perform the initial assessment of the patient within 30 minutes of patient admission (Present History, Past History, Family History, Allergy History, Past Medication History, and on the basis of these should have the impression of the disease) keeping in mind medical parameters, some of which are as follows:
- i. The condition of the patient, level of consciousness, improvement, or deterioration must be noted.
- ii. Vital functions - Pulse rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, temperature, and peripheral pulsations must be noted.
- iii. The degree of hydration and electrolyte imbalance if any must be noted.
- iv. The pulmonary status should be noted and signs of pulmonary congestion or respiratory distress should be checked.
- v. The abdomen should be checked for signs of distention and retention of urine.
- vi. The intake and output chart should be checked and maintained.
- vii. The bowel movements should be checked and urinary functions should be noted.
- viii. In surgical cases, the condition of the wound must be checked and noted. Thorough examination of the wound in case of undue pain, high fever or discharge must be carried out and findings noted.
- ix. In unconscious patients the back must be examined thoroughly for any appearance of bedsores. Proper instructions must also be given regarding the care of the eyes, mouth, breathing exercises, changes in the patient's position and feeding intragastric tube. Special attention must be paid to the indwelling catheter.
- x. Inform the same to the In - Charge Consultant & Coordinate with nurses and patient care coordinators to ensure continuous and quality care.
- xi. Maintaining confidentiality and impartiality
- c. All necessary investigations, as advised by the Consultant or Registrar, must be ordered by filling up the necessary requisition form. Proper follow up with the laboratory and
