Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Power BI Data Analyst to bridge the gap between business knowledge and AI engineering. This role will involve understanding our customers existing Power BI setup, extracting and documenting dataset structures, KPIs, and business logic from subject matter experts (SMEs), and collaborating with AI engineers to design prompts for generating dynamic DAX queries that power an AI-driven financial analytics platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Dataset Analysis: Review and understand the structure, measures, and relationships within existing Power BI datasets, OLAP cubes, and related sources.
- Metadata Extraction: Work with customer SMEs to document:
- Dataset definitions, fields, measures, hierarchies, and calculated columns
- KPI definitions and business rules (across Key Figures, Financial Statements, Cash Flow, Global Cost Benchmark, etc.) KPI Details
- Report logic and business context
- Prompt Design Support: Collaborate with AI engineers to:
- Translate business questions into prompt templates for dynamic DAX generation
- Validate AI-generated DAX queries for accuracy and efficiency
- Provide structured dataset metadata for Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines
- Validation & Testing: Run and validate generated queries in Power BI / DAX Studio to ensure correctness.
- Documentation: Maintain up-to-date technical and business documentation for all datasets and KPIs.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the bridge between business SMEs, BI teams, and AI engineers to ensure alignment on requirements and outputs.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Power BI, including datasets, measures, relationships, and the Power Query Editor.
- Proficiency in DAX writing, debugging, and optimizing queries.
- Experience working with OLAP cubes and SSAS (tabular/multidimensional).
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with business stakeholders and technical teams.
- Ability to translate business needs into clear technical requirements.
- Experience in documenting metadata, KPIs, and business rules for BI systems.
- Familiarity with prompt engineering concepts or willingness to learn.
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to AI/LLM projects, especially in generating code or queries.
- Knowledge of Azure Power BI Service integration via XMLA endpoints.
- Understanding of financial KPIs and corporate reporting structures.
- Experience with tools like DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, or similar.
- Familiarity with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and metadata-driven AI systems.
