Software Engineering Manager @ BT Group

This role holder will be a lead Software Engineer manager responsible for by co-ordinating between OSS designers, network design, and wider OSS/BSS stakeholders and lead the software application(s). The role holder is expected to possess good knowledge of Network Performance Management functions, Service Assurance & OSS domain.

Successful candidates need to have hands on technical experience in Data Science, Java & Big Data based technology, NoSQL Database, Streaming technologies such as Kafka and Linux platform. Should have good understanding of Network performance management tool sets.

Candidate should have prior experience in telecom service provider or with system integrators on telecom projects, cloud based design and deployment is plus.

The role requires to bring the innovation, design and technical leadership on to the table and deliver excellent product through innovative ways, provide technical leadership to drive big ticket transformation.

• Responsible for design, development and support of OSS systems and application software to both internal and external customers.
• To lead, develop and manage business continuity plans for all service interruptions and to recover and restore the business within a defined manner and priorities.
• Contributes towards the technical development
• You will develop and deliver software systems following the best practices software development, DevOps and Agile
• You will work closely with OSS designers, network design, and wider OSS/BSS stakeholders to understand the business outcome and work to provide the best solution possible.
• Be a creative problem solver.
• Contribute up to date detailed technology know-how to projects.
• Would generally act under supervision but may be required, Out of Hours, to work in isolation and take professional decisions to restore critical BT business functionality.
• Provides accurate completion and delivery of supervised work.
• Completes own role independently or with minimal supervision/guidance.
• Uses discretion in identifying and resolving complex problems and assignments.

Qualifications:

Typically computing/engineering/science degree.
Qualified to be and possible chartered engineer and fellow of a professional engineering/science institution.

Skills/Experience:

• Knowledge of Network Performance Management and Business Intelligence (BI) based Reporting.
• Hands on job experience in JAVA, JAVA Framework e.g. springboot.
• Understanding of RDBMS, SQL, Kafka
• Experience on Big Data and NoSQL technologies
• Proficiency in Unix/Linux as well as scripting languages (Shell/Perl/Python).
• Building non-relational data models on NoSQL data stores
• Hands-on MapReduce coding, including Java, Python, Pig programming
• Knowledge of Data Science
• Excellent written and oral/presentation skills in English
• Strong interest in growing your own technology skills.
• Good to have accreditations.
• Good understanding on Agile way of working
